Tehran declares EU official persona non grata

Tehran - Iran has declared European Union's foreign
policy chief Javier Solana as persona non grata in the
next round of talks with the EU, reports said.

State news agency IRNA late Thursday quoted an unnamed
official close to the Iranian negotiating team as
saying that Iran was dissatisfied with Solana's
"negative attitude" towards the country's nuclear
programme and chose not to invite him to the next
round of talks with the EU trio.

The official did not say when or where the next talks
would be held with the trio of Britain, France and
Germany.

Iranian chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani had
earlier said that threats by the EU and the US have
left no room for constructive talks over Iran's
nuclear dossier.

"As long as there are threats, no constructive
contents can be followed in the talks," Larijani told
state television.

The top nuclear official said that any talks without
acknowledgment of Iran's right to nuclear activities
had no meaning.

Larijani added that not the negotiation partners but
results were important for Iran, as the main aim is
pursuing atomic technology.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had told state
television Wednesday that Iran has found new
negotiation partners in Europe other than the EU trio,
but he did not disclose the names.

Ahmadinejad reiterated that although Iran was in
favour of negotiations, this was only if the
legitimate requests of the people to have nuclear
technology were not blocked.
