What is the aim of "Anti-Soros"

-"I know it is a fact that the swindler Soros is an
agent of Mossad [Israeli Foreign Intelligence Agency]
and the CIA. Members of Saakashvili's government are
also financed by him and are the agents who are under
the influence of Soros,"
-According to the editorial, the United States is the
real ruler of Eastern or New Europe and Washington is
trying to eliminate any anti-globalization
organization as it attempts to establish a 'new,
pro-American ideology.' According to Akhali Taoba,
Georgia, Ukraine, the Baltic Countries, Poland, the
Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, Rumania and the
Balkan states 'are the main targets of Soros interests
and America's 'New Europe' as well,' and Soros is
fighting to push American interests at the expense of
Russian and Chinese influence in the region.

A new movement, "Anti-Soros," was started on Monday.
While it is well known the organizers behind the
movement share an anti-western and pro-northern
political outlook, the popularity of the initiative
proves there are real concerns in Georgian society
about Western influences and 'imported' ideas.

Railing against Soros has become quite fashionable in
Georgia. Supporters of Manana Archvadze-Gamsakhurdia,
the widow of the first president of Georgia, Zviad
Gamsakhurdia, routinely hold protest demonstrations in
front of Soros' Open Society-Georgia Foundation in
Tbilisi. They demand that the Soros Fund cease its
activities in the country.

The newspaper Alia commented ironically on the
'fashionable fight' against Soros: "It leaves the
impression that there is a social competition between
small parties as to whose name will be associated with
the departure of Soros from Georgia. On the one side
Manana Archvadze-Gamsakhurdia is holding
demonstrations and from the other side Igor
Giorgadze's supporters have formed this alliance.
Furthermore, it is also said that even the government
wants to expel Soros from Georgia."

The head of Open-Society Georgia, Davit Darchiashvili,
believes the founding of Anti-Soros proves there are
people with two types of world view - totalitarian and
liberal-democratic.

According to Akhali Taoba, Darchiashvili stated only
people who 'were hurt by the collapse of the empire'
and are now 'searching for an ideological nucleus' are
upset with Soros.

But the emergence of an anti-Soros alliance this week
is not a coincidence that can be explained with black
and white terms such as "totalitarian" and "liberal
democratic."

Although the Anti-Soros platform does unites
pro-Russian forces, it also taps into a segment of
Georgian population that has concerns about protecting
their traditions. In their mind, Soros-financed
non-governmental organizations are characterized by a
lack of national consciousness.

According to Akhali Taoba, the Anti-Soros movement
unites people who believe that "Soros interferes
excessively and harshly in Georgia's domestic affairs
and seeks to destroy the Georgian consciousness."

No matter how loudly - and frequently - Soros-funded
NGOs prove they are doing good for the country, the
image of Soros in not a positive one in Georgian
society. This anti-Soros sentiment, alliance members
hope, can then be turned against America and the West
as a whole.

According to one of the founders of Anti-Soros, former
MP Elizbar Javelidze, NGOs financed by Soros are
fighting against the state interests of Georgia. He
thinks that organizations such as the Young Lawyers
Association, the Caucasian House, Kmara, the Liberty
Institute and the Republican Party want to change the
conciseness of the Georgian people in order to place
them under the influence of the United States.

"I know it is a fact that the swindler Soros is an
agent of Mossad [Israeli Foreign Intelligence Agency]
and the CIA. Members of Saakashvili's government are also financed by him
and are the agents who are under
the influence of Soros," he said, as quoted by Akhali
Taoba.

An Akhali Taoba editorial writer takes this argument
further and states that Anti-Soros can be considered
the first anti-globalization organization in Georgia.

The journalist also discusses the goals of Soros and
America, which are "clearly not of Georgian origin" in
terms of Georgia and the whole of Eurasia.

According to the editorial, the United States is the
real ruler of Eastern or New Europe and Washington is
trying to eliminate any anti-globalization
organization as it attempts to establish a 'new,
pro-American ideology.' According to Akhali Taoba,
Georgia, Ukraine, the Baltic Countries, Poland, the
Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, Rumania and the
Balkan states 'are the main targets of Soros interests
and America's 'New Europe' as well,' and Soros is
fighting to push American interests at the expense of
Russian and Chinese influence in the region.

The editorial also highlights concerns that this 'New
Europe' will result in the end of Georgian culture.
"In the New Europe the concepts of nation, culture,
ethnicity, religion should be abolished. Then, on
their ruins, a unified subculture - pan-Americanism -
will be constructed where, like in America, there will
be no differences between nations; there will only be
obedience to the laws that Washington will offer to
New Europe member countries.'
