Vreme: Macedonia Has More
Voters Than Citizens
Skopje. During
the last presidential elections in Macedonia there were more voters than
citizens, analyses of the State Statistical Office show, Macedonian Vreme
newspaper reads today. A total of 2,208,183 voters were registered at the
elections of which 1,211,899 or 54% took part in the first round of the
elections.
According to data of the 2002 census 2,022,547 people lived in Macedonia or 186,000 fewer than the total number of voters. According to the statistical office, during the last census there is a difference in the number of population but it is minimal. Besides, people under the age of 18, do not have the right to vote.
The State Statistical Office admits that a mistake was made and believes that the reason for this is the distribution of voter data in different municipalities.
