BELGRADE, Dec. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- Croatian state television on Monday
cancelled a popular talk show after strong protests against last
week's broadcast in which the late president Franjo Tudjman was
sharply criticized for his wartime "racist" policies.

The broadcast of talk show "Latinica", aired on state television
last Monday, triggered a wave of criticism in parliament and in the
media, prompting the station management to cancel the show on Monday
and initiate disciplinary proceedings against anchorman Denis Latin,
said reports from Zagreb, the Croatian capital.

Tudjman, considered by most Croats as the "father of the nation",
led Croatia's independence movement from the former Yugoslavia in
1991. But criticism of his wartime policies increased after his death
in 1999.

Carla del Ponte, the chief prosecutor of the UN war crimes
tribunal, has said Tudjman would have been indicted for war crimes if
he were alive, along with former Yugoslav President Slobodan
Milosevic, who is currently standing trial before the tribunal.

She has accused Tudjman of masterminding a "joint criminal
undertaking", by expelling more than 200,000 ethnic Serbs from Croatia
during its 1991-1995 independence war. Tudjman's closest collaborator,
general Ante Gotovina, was arrested on Dec. 7 by the Spanish police
and transferred to The Hague for trial.

Latin, whose father was the last president of Croatia when it was
still part of the Yugoslav federation, has been subject to a barrage
of criticism from war veteran organizations, members of parliament and
the media, and has been inundated with death threats, forcing police
to grant him special protection.
