Spain army chief sacked
ISN SECURITY WATCH (Saturday, 14 January: 11.34 CET) – The government of Spain government has dismissed its army commander, General Jose Mena Aguado, over a statement he made about sending the army into Spain’s Catalonia region, news agencies reported.
General Aguado, was placed under house arrest earlier this month after he suggested using the military to crush plans for greater autonomy in Catalonia.
A statute on more autonomy for Catalonia is being debated by Spanish parliament.
