Markov: "If decision on Kosovo does not become
universal model, it will destabilize situation in
post-Soviet territory"

nationalist regime of Russophobe Yushenko in Ukraine
and the regime of personal dictatorship of Saakashvili
in Georgia, who oppresses national minorities, all
these centers of instability in the post-Soviet
territory are supported and provoked by the West."
Head of the Political Studies Institute, member of the
Public Chamber Sergey Markov commented to a REGNUM
correspondent on the statement made by Russia's
President Vladimir Putin on Kosovo settlement where he
spoke about the principle of universal nature in
solving international conflicts:
"Russia's position in this issue differs from the
West's position in two ways: on the one hand, we are
against Kosovo independence, as Serbia is our ally, on
the other hand, we are ready to recognize Kosovo
independence, in case is the precedent will be of
universal nature and become applicable to unrecognized
nations in the post-Soviet territory. I mean Abkhazia,
South Ossetia, Nagorno Karabakh and Transdnestr.
"I suppose, that in the West our proposal on working
out a universal approach will be not be heard and in
the long run the decision on Kosovo independence will
be made from the position of force. The same way, from
the position of force, the West is trying not to allow
unrecognized nations in the post-Soviet territory gain
independence.
"At present day, the US and the European Union are
main destabilizing forces in the world. International
terrorism is a reaction to the Western policy of the
'golden billion.' If the decision on Kosovo does not
become a universal model that can be applied to other
unrecognized nations, it will also destabilize the
situation in conflict zones in the territory of the
former USSR.
"Ethnocratic regimes in Latvia and Estonia,
nationalist regime of Russophobe Yushenko in Ukraine
and regime of personal dictatorship of Saakashvili in
Georgia, who oppresses national minorities, all these
centers of instability in the post-Soviet territory
are supported and provoked by the West."
