Milosevic Wife: Hague Tribunal Killed My Husband

Politics: 11 March 2006, Saturday.

The tribunal killed my husband, Mirjana Markovic, wife of late Yugoslav leader
Slobodan Milosevic said in an interview for CNN.

On February 24, 2006 judges refused a request by Milosevic to go to Moscow for
treatment at a specialist hospital for heart disease.
They said there had been "no real attempt to demonstrate that the accused's
medical needs cannot be met in the Netherlands", adding it had not been proven
that the Bakulev Centre in Moscow is the only possible place to treat
Milosevic.

They pointed out the trial is in the "latter stages" and said that despite
guarantees provided by the Russian Federation and personal undertakings from
Milosevic, they were not satisfied that if released, he would return for the
continuation of his trial.

Milosevic was found dead in bed in his prison cell in The Hague, Netherlands on
March 11.
