One of the suspects in the case of war-time murders of Croatian Serbs in Osijek has admitted to taking part in the executions.

According to today’s report in Jutarnji List daily, Mirko Simić and Gordan Getoš-Magdić, both Osijek natives, were taken into police custody on Friday. They were detained at Osijek District Court’s Investigative Center under the suspicion of having committed war crimes against civilians during the 1991 war in Croatia.

Simić has confessed to taking part in the executions known in Croatia as “The Sellotape Case”, related to the war-time murders of Serbs on the banks of the Drava River.

The newspaper reports that several other suspects were brought in for questioning in connection to the same case.

Anonymous court sources told the daily arrest indictments were issued for several other persons. The move is meant to solve most of the cases related to the 1991 Osijek liquidations of Serbs. Jutarnji List adds it has obtained unofficial information that the police investigators have solid evidence related to the motives and the organizational methods behind the murder of civilians in Osijek in 1991.
