Musharraf wants joint Pak-Bosnia peace efforts

Launches his book in Bosnian language

SARAJEVO: President Gen Pervez Musharraf said Pakistan and Bosnia should
join hands to promote peace and development at all levels.

Pakistan and its people have emotional attachment with Bosnia and will
always remain supportive to the Bosnian people for their stability, harmony
and prosperity.

He was addressing the specially convened session of both the Houses of
Bosnian Parliament here. The president received a standing ovation from the
parliamentarians, when he arrived in the Assembly hall. He briefed them
about Pakistan's contribution towards peace and development at regional and
international levels.

In regard to Pakistan's support to the Bosnian people at the time of
distress, the president said he was pleased to be part of the efforts of the
international community to bring peace to Bosnia by contributing its troops
to the UN.

He said during their stay in Bosnia, every Pakistani soldier voluntarily had
a fast in a week and whatever they saved was given to the Bosnian people. He
said it was emotional attachment of the Pakistani people and the army for
the people of Bosnia and the attachment continues till today.

Musharraf praised the Bosnian people for strengthening the foundation of
multi-ethnic and multi-religious society. He said the initiative they have
launched to promote intra-cultural and intra-faith harmony is extremely
important.

He said the need of the world today is interfaith harmony, which lies at the
core of fight against terrorism and extremism. He said he feels that with
historical experience of Bosnia of living in harmony between various
religions including Jews, Muslims and Christians for centuries and having
the experience of religious disharmony in the decade of l990s and again
recovering and having harmony, Bosnia can contribute effectively for
interfaith harmony.

He said Pakistan is making efforts towards normalization of relations with
India and peace and stability in Pakistan. As far India is concerned we are
going on the path of confidence building measures and conflict resolution.

He said in Afghanistan the main battle is between Taliban and non-Taliban
and coalition and Afghan forces. He said Pakistan is trying to curb support
of Taliban and non-Taliban fighters in Afghanistan. He said we need
stability in Afghanistan.

President Musharraf said it was an honour to address the Bosnian parliament
as he had come with a desire to enhance economic relations with Bosnia.

Meanwhile, Musharraf launched his autobiography "In the Line of Fire",
published in Bosnian language, and said it depicts his life and various
phases of struggle to serve his country as well as a true perception of
developments taking place in the region and the world over. Talking to a
four-member delegation of Inter-Religious Council of Bosnia-Herzegovina in
Sarajevo Saturday, the president emphasized the need for interfaith harmony
to ensure peace and development in the world.
