TENET: Is it CIA or CYA?

by Stella L. Jatras

May 8, 2007

One of the biggest mistakes President George W. Bush made when first taking
office was that he didn't clean house. He didn't clean house at the
Department of State where Clinton's mouthpiece, Nicholas Burns, is still
implementing President Clinton's flawed policies in pushing for an
independent Kosovo and the creation of another jihadist state in the heart
of Europe. (See: www.savekosovo.org)

And above all, President Bush should have replaced George John Tenet who was
appointed Director of Central Intelligence (DCI) in July, 1997, by President
Bill Clinton.

Since I didn't want to buy Tenet's book, "At the Center of the Storm," and
to put more money in his pocket, I preferred, instead, to sit in one of the
comfortable arm chairs provided at some book stores and peruse the book
there because I wanted to see what the author had to say specifically about
Bosnia and Kosovo.

Apparently, the author did not think that the destruction of a Christian
nation in order to appease the Muslim world was worthy of note because
"Bosnia," and "Kosovo," except for a few references, were barely mentioned.

As an American of Greek descent, I was both saddened and outraged when
President George W. Bush presented Tenet with the President Medal of Freedom
Aware, the nation's highest civilian honor.

I was outraged because on George Tenet's watch, President William Jefferson
Clinton was allowed to destroy our fellow Christians, the Serbs, America's
ally of two world wars. If this humble person, (and I am referring to
myself,) knew the truth of what was happening in Kosovo, surely the director
of the CIA also must have known, or should have known, that the majority of
the atrocities for which we bombed innocent Serbian civilians were staged by
Muslims both in Bosnia and in Kosovo.

If I knew of the March 2004 pogrom that was being committed against the
Serbian population in Kosovo by Albanian mobs, that Serbs were being
beheaded, that "grannies," were being raped and drowned (in bathtubs), that
Serbian Orthodox priests were being beaten and/or murdered, and that
centuries old monasteries and churches were being either desecrated or
destroyed by our good friends, the Kosovo Liberation Army, why didn't George
Tenet know?

The following words of Representative Tom Lantos, a Democrat from
California, spoken at a press conference on 17 April will forever haunt me:

"Rep. Lantos: Thank you very much. Let me just raise a few items, Mr.
Secretary. The first one: Just a reminder to the predominately Muslim-led
governments in this world that here is yet another example that the United
States leads the way for the creation of a predominately Muslim country in
the very heart of Europe. This should be noted by both responsible leaders
of Islamic governments, such as Indonesia, and also for the jihadists of all
colors and hue. The United States' principles are universal, and in this
instance, the United States stands foursquare for the creation of an
overwhelmingly Muslim country in the heart of Europe."

This being the case, then why are we fighting terrorists all over the world
when Lantos and his ilk are seeking to "create an overwhelmingly Muslim
country in the heart of Europe?" Do they really think, and I reiterate here,
that by destroying a Christian people, the Muslim world will be appeased?
For myself, I cannot think of any other reason why respectable congressmen
and politicians would want what would be clearly devastating to Europe and
to the world?

George John Tenet resigned abruptly on June 3, 2004, and left July 11, 2004,
the seventh anniversary since his swearing in, reportedly "for personal
reasons."

And finally, I was saddened, because an American of Greek descent, who had
the opportunity to do great things for this country, had failed in his job.
I need not rehash the intelligence communities failures regarding 9/11 or
Tenet's "Slam Dunk" comment about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Those
failures, directly attributed to George Tenet, received copious press
coverage, but in his book, he is, in my opinion, attempting to use the old
"CYA" excuse.
