Athens - Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis said Sunday that Greece
insisted an agreement on the future status of Kosovo must take into
consideration all the countries in the immediate region. "Whichever solution is
found must take into consideration Europe's future and that of all the
countries in the region," Karamanlis told reporters before general elections in
Greece scheduled for September 16.

Any solution must also be with Belgrade's consent, he stressed.

"There are no solutions which can be imposed from above. Any solution must be
accepted or at least tolerated by all sides," he added.

Serbia has expressed willingness to compromise on Kosovo's status, but ruled
out the possibility of full independence.

Kosovo has been under the jurisdiction of the United Nations ever since it
stopped a crackdown by Serb forces in 1999 who did not want ethnic Albanians,
who make up 90 of the province's 2 million people, to seek independence.
