Meddling in the Balkans

The editorial "The Balkans, again" (Nov. 12) condemns "Russia's active
meddling." But when the meddling in the Balkans is by the United States and
its allies, it is given the media's stamp of approval.

Never mind that throughout history so many of the problems in the Balkans
have been greatly exacerbated by the interference of the West.

The editorial goes on to state that "the Serbs refuse to admit that Slobodan
Milosevic's invasion in 1999 lost them Kosovo."

By whose edict is it declared that the Serbs lost Kosovo?

And since when is it considered an "invasion" if the action takes place
within one's own country?

On the contrary, it was a U.S.-led NATO force that invaded a sovereign
country in 1999. And, in so doing, contravened NATO's own charter, the UN
charter, the Helsinki Final Act and the tenets of international law.

Then you have the temerity to finish off your editorial with the words
"Washington should make every effort to persuade the Russians that their
neo-Cold-War games are dangerous, misguided and ultimately futile."

Isn't that a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black?
