Sarinic says all except for US wanted to divide BiH

-"Given the fact that Milosevic recognized BiH
entirely within Yugoslavia only, Tudjman put forward a
proposal to the then German Chancellor Helmut Kohl,
with assistance by the EU and US, to try to win
Serbia's backing for BiH's division, which would have
paved the way to formation of a small Muslim state."

Zagreb - Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) was a key
problem in the former Yugoslavia and all, except for
the United States, wanted to divide BiH following the
breakup of the old Yugoslav federation, Croatia's
ex-prime minister Sarinic said.

The remarks by Sarinic, one of the closest associates
of the late president Franjo Tudjman, were made during
his speech on the occasion of Croatia's independence
anniversary. He spoke on the theme "Circumstances
surrounding the birth of independent Croatian state -
memories and thoughts".

According to Sarinic, Tudjman considered BiH as
"geopolitical absurd" established "along the
boundaries of Turkish conquerors in 15th century", but
as time went by, the absurd became more pragmatic.

"Given the fact that Milosevic recognized BiH entirely
within Yugoslavia only, Tudjman put forward a proposal
to the then German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, with
assistance by the EU and US, to try to win Serbia's
backing for BiH's division, which would have paved the
way to formation of a small Muslim state," Sarinic
said.
