Looking at the Times online today I couldn't help noticing the irony of
these headlines side by side near the top of the world news section:

  <http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article3415632.ece>
Turks pour into Iraq in pursuit of Kurds

Thousands of Turkish troops are involved in Ankara's biggest cross-border
incursion in more than a decade

 <http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article3419836.ece> EU
freezes talks with Serbia after attacks

Javier Solana, the EU foreign policy chief, urges Serbia to do more to
protect embassies after a night of violence

In one case Serbs are castigated for the sort of behaviour we see every day
from Muslims i.e. torching an embassy. Albeit one that belongs to the
country that encouraged the permanent removal of 15% of their territory and
less than 10 years after bombing the hell out of them illegally.

On the other hand Turks who have recognised Kosovo, far from seeing how
Kurds are their "Kosovars" (or probably because they precisely do see!),
invade another country to attack Kurds whose cultural identity they deny
absolutely, all without a murmur from Uncle Sam. And these are the same
Turks who refused to let US troops transit their territory when it would
have made things so much simpler for the Iraq attack in 2003.

What a weird world!
