MONTREAL GAZETTE (CANADA) LETTERS Speak up for Canada Saturday, March 22, 2008 How sad to hear ministers Maxime Bernier and Lawrence Cannon in their puerile attempts to distinguish between Quebec and Kosovo. The only reference that is made is to the ethnic hostilities in the Balkans to differentiate the two cases. Nary a mention of the fact that Quebecers and Canadians outside Quebec have a shared history and participation in the institutions of our country, which preclude the need for violence. A collective heritage that is the warp and woof of our national narrative. It's something Albanian Kosovars and Serbs shared. If our political leaders can't speak intelligently about our own country, can we expect them to understand what's going on in other parts of the world? Howard M. Greenfield Montreal
