Kosovo Serb doctors want probe

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA -- An association gathering Serb doctors in Kosovo has
called for an investigation into allegations of organ trafficking.

Former Chief Hague Prosecutor Carla Del Ponte wrote in her new book that her
office dropped an investigation into claims that in 1999, KLA kidnapped some
300 Serbs, to transport them to Albania, where their vital organs were
removed.

Del Ponte said it was impossible to continue her investigation into the case
after 2003.

Now the Serb Medical Society is asking the ministries of health, justice and
foreign affairs to start an official probe.

The vice-chairman of the organization, Doctor Milan Jakovljević, said they
will seek an answer from the World Health Organization, WHO, as to why this
body did not investigate the claims.

He also said the greatest responsibility lies with expert medical personnel
that took part in this crime.

"A country that allows this type of crime to happen in its territory while
its official institutions have no information about it, is either covering
the crime up, or is an accomplice to it. Therefore we are asking that our
state severs relations with the republic of Albania," Jakovljević said
today.
