K. Mitrovica: Albanians throw stones at Serbs

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA -- A group of Albanian men today assaulted
Serb passers-by in northern Kosovska Mitrovica.

The incident took place in the Brdo neighborhood of the divided town at
around 16:00 CET, B92 has learned from the Kosovo police, KPS.

The KPS source specified that as the attack took place, the Serbs started
gathering, after which the Albanian perpetrators "withdrew" toward the ethic
Albanian village of Suvi Do.

UNMIK and KPS then "intervened in time to prevent escalation and possible
clashes between the Serbs and Albanians", the source added.

No one was injured in the incident.

So far, none of the perpetrators have been detained, while investigation in
ongoing.

Kosovska Mitrovica is divided by the Ibar River into the northern,
predominantly Serb, and southern, Albanian part. A number of Albanian and
Bosniak residents live in the northern part of the town, while there are no
Serbs south of the river.
