Serbia Won't Seek Croatia WWII Money

Boris Tadic22 April 2008 Zagreb _ Serbia's President said his country will
not seek compensation from Croatia over crimes committed against Serbs
during the Second World War.
Speaking to reporters in New York where he attended the Security Council
session on Kosovo, Boris Tadic said the opening of such cases would only
deepen the wounds that are still healing following the latest 1991-1995
conflict between Croatia and its Serb minority.

"It is up to the victims' family to find a solution to such cases," Tadic
said, whose own relatives were also killed by Croatian fascists, known as
the Ustasha during the Second World War.

Thousands of Serbs, Jews, Roma and Croatian anti-fascists perished during
the Nazi puppet regime led by the Ustasha between 1941 and 1945.

"If we now go back to the Second World War we will only have more problems.
We must solve the problems that came out of the last war," Zagreb's Jutarnji
List quoted Tadic as saying.

The paper said Tadic insisted on "reconciliation, the establishment of peace
and development in all regional countries."

Croatia is currently suing Serbia for genocide in the 1991-1995 conflict
before the International Court of Justice, based in The Hague. Read more:
