Press release - 326(2008)

PACE delegation to observe parliamentary elections in Serbia

Strasbourg, 06.05.2008 – A 29-member delegation from the Parliamentary
Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) headed by Jean-Charles Gardetto
(Monaco, EPP/CD) will observe the parliamentary elections in Serbia on 11
May, alongside observers from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

The delegation will be in the country from 9 May and will meet the Chair of
the Electoral Commission, representatives of political parties, civil
society and the media and members of the diplomatic corps before observing
the polling and the counting of votes in Belgrade and throughout the
country.

The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe is
also sending an observer team to the local elections being held at the same
time.

In April 2008, PACE conducted a pre-electoral visit, the conclusions of
which can be found at the link below.

A press conference will be held on Monday 12 May at 12.00 am, in the
Belgrade Media Centre (Milentija Popovica 9, Sava Centre).

NB: The press conference will be in two parts: PACE will first present its
preliminary conclusions on the parliamentary elections and the Congress
delegation will then comment on the local elections and the provincial
elections in Vojvodina.
