RAISING MONEY FOR THE PEOPLE OF PREKOVCE
Troystvo is a non-profit organisation whose object is the benefit of the public
and in particular those who are deprived and disadvantaged socially,
economically and in education. The organisation is focused on the improvement
of health, the relief of poverty, and the investment in education. Troystvo
does not discriminate any member of the public, regardless of their race, age,
faith, gender or sexual orientation. Troystvo raises funds by organising
sports tournaments (such as football, basketball and rugby games), educational
seminars and other fundraising events including exhibitions and music concerts.
The current campaign:
Since the end of the last month, members of Troystvo have focused on raising
funds for the communal kitchen in the village of Prekovce, (municipality of
Novo Brdo) where more than 430 people are fed every day on humanitarian
handouts. The Municipality of Novo Brdo is a Serbian enclave, located in the
heart of Kosovo, southeast part of Serbia, where the majority Albanian
population declared independence in February 2008. Those Serbs, who did not
want to leave their motherland and recognise the newly established country, are
now at the edge of existence. Living in an enclave and being surrounded by a
hostile Albanian population has made life almost unbearable. The lack of
freedom of movement has meant that a vast majority of people lost their jobs
and only means of steady income.
As a consequence, the Serbs living in these enclaves relay on help
provided by the Serbian government, Serbian Red Cross and various people of
good will.
However, this is far from enough for satisfying even the basic
human needs, one of which is food. A lack of money to buy food leaves them
with only one solution - a meal in the communal kitchen ‘Prekovce’.
Among regular users of this kitchen, there are 200 pupils from four different
schools. It is very sad and touching to see young children relying on a
communal kitchen for food handouts instead of being able to eat from their own
homes. Despite the effort of many people who help with the work of the
kitchen, the lack of food supplies is evident as the number of users increases
every day.
In order to feed 450 people every month, head chef Miladin Kostic and his team
have to use 75 litres of vegetable oil, 50 kg of row beans, 10 kg of different
spices, 3 000 kg of wheat flower, hundreds of packs of canned meals, dozens of
boxes of potatoes, tomatoes, garden peas, etc.
Troystvo has made decision to provide financial support, which will secure food
supplies for the kitchen on a monthly basis! Please become a member of our
organisation and help us raise the money for those who will benefit from it!
