OTTAWA SERBS TO BUILD NEW PLACE OF WORSHIP
SAINT STEFAN SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH
Carried by the joy with which the Lord had taken care of us, the Serbian
Orthodox community in Ottawa had one more reason to rejoice - the
consecration of their church ground, the center of their spiritual,
liturgical-Eucharistic gathering and life.
July 19, 2008 - After 20 years in the capitol city, the growing Serbian
community in Ottawa will soon have its new church. The future property of
the Saint Stefan Serbian Orthodox Church at 1989 -1993 Prince of Wales Drive
was consecrated today by His Grace Bishop Georgije in attendance of some
hundred Orthodox faithful. After the ceremony, a reception was organized by
the church's Circle of Serbian women "Saint Petka" at the old Saint Stefan
Church ground.
Due to increased number of faithful and the lack of space related to the
current church ground the church's trusteeship decided to sell the existing
property and to buy a new one for $ 1,042.000 in order to build the new
church, a parish home and a community center .
Today's ceremony was attended by Mr. Branimir Filiopvic, newly appointed
Charge d'Affairs at the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Ottawa .The
consecration of the church ground and the celebration prepared on the
occasion of this event will remain in the memory of the parishioners as well
in the history of the Serbian Church in Canada as a very significant and
joyful event.
