Karadzic appeals extradition to The Hague
Published: July 28, 2008 at 7:16 AM
BELGRADE, Serbia, July 28 (UPI) -- Attorneys for accused Bosnian Serb
war criminal Radovan Karadzic are trying to delay his extradition to
The Hague on genocide charges, Karadzic's brother says.
Luka Karadzic says attorney Svetozar Vujacic has filed an appeal to a
ruling that Karadzic must be transferred from Belgrade to the
Netherlands to face charges brought by the International Criminal
Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, CNN reported Monday.
Vujacic refused to confirm that an appeal has been filed but had
earlier told the broadcaster he wants to put off the extradition for
as long as possible, partly to allow Karadzic's wife and family in
Bosnia a chance to visit him in Belgrade, CNN said.
Karadzic for 12 years was one of Europe's most wanted men before his
July 21 arrest. He is charged with organizing a genocide aimed at
Bosnian Muslims and other war crimes stemming from the 4-year-long
siege of Sarajevo, in which thousands of civilians died.
