Medvedev gives orders to collect evidence of S.
Ossetia crimes
Moscow - At a meeting with Alexander Bastrykin,
Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia's
Prosecutor General's Office, Russian President Dmitry
Medvedev demanded that "all necessary efforts be made
to collect and document the evidence of crimes
committed in South Ossetia, creating a basis for the
criminal persecution of the culprits and the
international assessment of their actions.
"An operation to force Georgia to peace will be
continued, and those responsible will be punished,"
Medvedev stressed.
Assessing the situation in South Ossetia, he said:
"The actions of the Georgian side can only be
described as genocide," pointing to their massive
scale and that they were aimed against civilians.
Medvedev accused Georgian troops of "committing the
gravest crimes against South Ossetia's people, who
were murdered, burnt, crushed by tanks and stabbed."
