International military exercise ´Jackal Stone 2009’ taking place in Croatia
The international military exercise "Jackal Stone 09" is being held in Croatia
from 10 to 27 September.
The exercise has been organized by the Battalion for Special Operations of the
General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces and Special Operations Command
Europe – SOCEUR.
Around 1,500 soldiers from 10 countries - Albania, Croatia, Hungary, Lithuania,
Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Ukraine and the USA - are taking part in
the exercise.
The main objective of the exercise is to foster cooperation among the armed
forces of participating countries in fighting terrorism, strengthening regional
security and stability and practising procedures to be followed in
hostage-taking situations.

[M]ajor equipment to be used includes Croatian Air Force and Air Defence
helicopters, US Air Force aircraft, US Army helicopters and a US Navy Destroyer.
Each country will pay for the cost of its participation in the exercise.
