BELGRADE, Serbia, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Serbian Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac
said Tuesday he will investigate reports of gunfire coming from Kosovo.

The Monday night gunfire has alarmed Serb villagers in the Ground Safety Zone
near the Serbian-Kosovo administrative line, the Serbian news agency Tanjug
reported.

Sutanovac said Belgrade would work with NATO's

Kosovo Force "to try and find out what exactly happened and whether the
incident was directed against the non-Albanian residents, or if it is something
we can call hooliganism or something similar happening in Kosovo."

Residents of the Serb village of Rasevac said they have organized patrols after
strong spotlights coming from across the line were trained on their homes.

"No one from the police or military came, so we have to take rifles ourselves
and stand guard," a Rasevac resident told the Serbian news Web site B92, adding
that some residents packed up all their necessities to flee their homes if
needed.

Fifteen mostly elderly Serbs live in the village, Tanjug said.
