The year of 2010 shall be marked by search for solution to Kosovo problem and
that shall be the most difficult problem that the authorities in Serbia intend
to solve, ‘Blic’ learns from a high source at Serbia Government.

The steps have been already taken that ‘literally a day after the International
Court of Justice announces its opinion over legality of proclamation of Kosovo
independence a session of the UN SC is scheduled’ and that ‘a dynamic progress
is made in initiating negotiations for finding of solution between Belgrade and
Pristina’ because ‘the strategic goal of Serbia – the EU membership shall not
be possible without this issue solved’, our source adds.
Although experts in foreign policy relations such as Ivan Vejvoda (Director of
the Balkan fund for democracy) and Ivan Vujacic (former Serbian ambassador to
the USA) say for ‘Blic’ that ‘solution to Kosovo cannot be found either easily
or quickly’, the authorities in Belgrade are determined to make ‘a rapid
breakthrough’ in settlement of the chief Serbian problem.
‘From the point of view of the global policy, the region of the West Balkans
has three huge problems, all three depending on Serbia: Kosovo, BiH (status of
the Republic of Srpska) and the NATO (military neutrality of Serbia). We cannot
solve all of these problems simultaneously but we can start solving the most
important one, Kosovo. Because of global problems, internal problems and
tiredness with the EU enlargement, the EU would probably to put the issue of
the West Balkans aside and it is our task to animate the EU and made it deal
with our problems and help us reach a sustainable solution for Kosovo through
dialog and negotiations’, our high source says.
The plan for Kosovo does not envisage any solution being offered by Belgrade,
but that the EU is animated to participate via the UN SC. The plan has been
already supported by many of the EU members.
‘It is hard to imagine that Serbia can solve its main problem without support
and help by the USA and the EU’, Ivan Vejvoda says.
