“Two more peacekeeping missions in 2010”

BELGRADE: Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac announced on Thursday that “members
of the Serbian system of defense” will take part in two more peacekeeping
missions.

This will happen by the end of 2010, he said, added that Serbia will open its
office within [headquarters] NATO in Brussels by mid 2010 and perhaps even
earlier.

Sutanovac told a press conference at the building of the Serbian government
that the missions are being prepared, and added that they are expected to be
realized soon.

The third mission which was planned to be carried out in Uganda, in cooperation
with France, will not be realized this year, since, as he put it, the Frenchmen
found other military doctors.

Serbia is taking part in the UN peacekeeping missions in Congo, Cote d'Ivoire
and Liberia, and it is present in Chad as well, together with representatives
of a Norwegian contingent.

As a member of NATO's Partnership for Peace, Serbia will through its office in
Brussels take part in a number of various projects the same way the countries
which are members of the program do.
