BRITISH CITIZENSHIP FOR 200,000 IMMIGRANTS

Friday, 28th May 2010

More than 200,000 immigrants became British citizens last year according to the
Office for National Statistics.

The figure marks a 58% rise in the number of citizenships handed out to
foreigners compared to 2008 stats and the highest number of new citizenships
given away since records began.

Further evidence of the failed immigration policies of the past 15 years comes
as the Con-Dem coalition government carries on where Labour left off – making
noises about cutting immigration while ignoring the huge problem of incomers
from the EU.

In the Queen’s speech delivered on Tuesday, the new government announced a cap
on non-EU immigration – but did not say what the cap would be, and did not
touch on any ways to stem the tide of immigrants coming from the EU.

And in a separate development, thousands of Bosnians and Albanians could be on
their way to Britain after the EU announced that it would end visa restrictions
on travel to and from the two Balkan states.

While 3.1m Albanians and 3.7m Bosnians have not yet been granted full EU rights
to roam, the lifting of visa restrictions is a huge step forward for both
countries, which are set to become EU member states despite continuing problems
with institutionalised corruption.
