Former President of the Republic of Srpska Radovan Karadzic accused Germany of
hiding the crucial documents relevant for his trial on war crimes in The Hague.
Allegedly, they are to prove that some of the NATO states were conducting
illegal weapons trade during the war in Bosnia between 1992 and 1995, while the
United Nations’ arms embargo was in force.

After the German government denied it posses such documents, Karadzic addressed
the German embassy in the Netherlands asking that country to make more effort
in order to locate them.

In his letter to the German embassy, Karadzic also referred to the statement of
the former German Telecommunications Minister Christian Schwarz-Schilling who
said it was “possible that the documents have compromising information, for
example, information that France or Great Britain smuggled weapons into Bosnia
and Herzegovina”.

Karadzic requested eight categories of documents: reports, memorandums,
correspondence and reports of the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND)
related to the weapons’ deliveries to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH), especially
to Srebrenica in 1995.

Germany is not the only country which refused Karadzic’s requests. Some
countries stated they couldn’t meet his requirements as the evidence he asked
for were military documents of confidential nature.

The former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic is indicted by the
International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia for the war crimes
during the conflict in Bosnia, including genocide and crimes against humanity
against Bosnian Muslims and Croats.

Karadzic, who acts as his own lawyer, claims the West was heavily involved in
the conflicts in Bosnia and the war was fostered from abroad as the Muslims
were getting weapons supplies.
