[ Europe / Open Data / Digital Agenda] ========================================================================= FFII advocates liberating public sector information to tackle the crisis =========================================================================
Berlin, 12 Sept 2010 - The FFII calls for better access to public data for commercial and non-commercial purposes. A consultation is now open for public contributions. Citizens, companies and stakeholders can weight in on opening data for re-use. "Governments should give the public free access to public data, since it has already been paid for with our taxes. Especially in the current economic crisis, free access to public data would immediately create opportunities for jobs and innovation, and spur software companies to create new applications", explains FFII president Benjamin Henrion. Responses would feed into a recast of the "European Directive on Public Sector Information Re-Use" (2003/98/EC) under the European Digital Agenda. The European Commission's re-use consultation remains open for contributions until 30 November 2010. ========================================================================= Consultation Form ========================================================================= Questionnaire http://ec.europa.eu/yourvoice/ipm/forms/dispatch?form=psidirective2010 European Commission background website on the consultation http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/policy/psi/index_en.htm ========================================================================= Links ========================================================================= European Directive on PSI re-use 2003/98/EC http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:32003L0098:EN:NOT ePSIplus Portal http://www.epsiplus.net/ Permanent link to this press release: https://press.ffii.org/Press%20releases/FFII%20advocates%20liberating%20public%20sector%20information%20to%20tackle%20the%20crisis ========================================================================= Contact ========================================================================= Benjamin Henrion FFII Brussels +32-484-56 61 09 (mobile) bhenrion at ffii.org (French/English) ========================================================================= About FFII ========================================================================= The FFII is a not-for-profit association registered in twenty European countries, dedicated to the development of information goods for the public benefit, based on copyright, free competition, open standards.
