FFII to form offensive patent pool against
IBM, Microsoft, Philips and SAP
===============================================
PRESS RELEASE -- [ Patents / Innovation / Economy ]
Brussels, 1st April 2014 -- FFII is forming a network of patent owners
with the ambition to stop key products from large patent companies, such
as IBM, Microsoft, Philips and SAP. FFII aims to compete against
initiatives such as Intellectual Ventures (IV), which aggregate many
inventions, but with the help of the open source community.
FFII's President Benjamin Henrion, explains the plan: "With the IBM
failure to involve open source developers in the Peer2Patent and
DefensivePublications projects, we wanted involve developers in the
process of patents. Patents serve as a good incentive for litigation,
which can be an new business model for financing open source
development."
He continues: "We are now launching 2 parallel projects: the
OffensivePublications and Coin2Patent initiatives.
OffensivePublications is basically the patent themselves, which gonna
only include only patent claims and no documentation. We already
recruited the talented programmers of the C-obfuscation contest to write
those claims. They have also started a patent claims generator based on
neural networks, patassassin and SciGen, which will help open source
developers generating more patent applications in the future.
The Coin2Patent project will allow anyone who wants to support patent
enforcement against those companies to anonymously donate cash via
a new crypto-currency, the PatCoin. We already received a big donation
from an anonymous contributor, which means that there are really people
intested in hurting those companies."
He also welcomes the Unitary Patent project: "Our primary goal is to
stop the key products of the those companies on the US and European
markets. We are exited by the new Unitary Patent Court, which can really
help small inventors to enforce their patents EU-wide, and stop large
companies abusing open source property."

About OffensivePublications
======================================================
Offensive publications, which are endorsed by the USPTO and the EPO as
an IP rights management tool, are documents that provide descriptions of
processes and methods that companies cannot implement without
restrictions. Those documents are in the public domain and becomes prior
art for future patent applications. This powerful preemptive document
prevents other parties from making, using, selling products, devices or
methods. It enables the original inventor to ensure that they have
access to their invention by preventing others from later making
products on it. It also means that they do not have to shoulder the cost
of making products.
The Coin2Patent project is a distributed crowdfunding decentralized
platform, where anybody can help patent trolling by sending anonymous
donations. The central blockchain of Coin2Patent is nevertheless
regulated by the EPO and USPTO, which acts like central banks to
fluidify the economy, and limit the number of patents in circulation.
This will prevent huge value fluctuations of the patent currency, like
it was the case with Bitcoin.
