User bug. You obviously used a Cooker package of gcc3.1 at some point and 
hereby your alternatives are not pointing to the right colorgcc version. 
Anyway, we don't support Cooker packages on stable distributions like 8.2.

colorgcc from the colorgcc2.96 package has even hardcoded reference to 
/usr/bin/gcc-2.96 as the underlying compiler.
