Not having a Canon printer here I cannot help you, but I cc your mail to
a real Canon specialist (Peter Missel, he made the Canon part of
GIMP-Print) and to the Canon mailing list on linuxprinting.org.

Which driver did you use under Mandrake Linux 8.2? Or what did you
exactly do there to make your printer working?

Can you also do

    urpmi omni

Then start printerdrake, click the "Expert Mode" button and do the usual
steps to add a printer. Install your printer as a "Canon BJC-210"
(without "sp"). You will get offered a lot of drivers. Try them and tell
which gives the best quality. Tell also what is wrong with the other
drivers. Try also the Canon BJC-200, BJC240, BJC-220JCII, and BJC-220JSII.

    Till
