Hiya, folks.
I wouldn't normally forward a whole newsletter, but this one contains a lot
of information about us, especially since we're starting to partner more
with ABC. I recently joined the ABC Board of Directors, which means we have
a bigger voice when it comes to city-wide bicycle-oriented decision making.
I think the future is brighter now that we've got the bicycle advocacy
organization and the community bicycle repair shop working together.
In other small town politics news, I'm the secretary of the East Atlanta
Business Association. If you're interested in keeping up with EABA, please
let me know.
Enjoy!

*The Atlanta Bicycle Campaign's "Move by Bike" is part of larger
sustainability agenda*

The Atlanta Bicycle Campaign is moving downtown, and we're doing so on
bikes.

At 10 AM on Saturday, December 15th, volunteers will pedal the organization
out of its current offices in the church basement at 743 Virginia Avenue NE
to its new offices at 233 Mitchell Street in downtown Atlanta.

ABC members and volunteers, including the Atlanta Intown Touring Club, will
use panniers, bike trailers, baskets and messenger bags to make the Move By
Bike happen. ABC will also host a basement sale that will include some
items of interest to cyclists along with office supplies and furniture.
Volunteers and staff of the nonprofit bicycle advocate will move heavier
items, such as furniture and electronic equipment, by Flexcar.

ABC's "Move by Bike" is part of a two-pronged agenda to 1) raise the
organization's visibility with decision-makers and government agencies, and
2) weave environmentally friendly practices into its daily operations.

The Sopo Bicycle Cooperative's mission is to create equitable access to
cycling by providing affordable bicycle maintenance services and education.
Visit their shop in East Atlanta to volunteer or build your own bike
project!

You can also *support Sopo's latest project*, VéloAID Rwamagana: Capacity
Building for Community Empowerment.

Sopo director Rachael Spiewak is traveling to the Rwamagana District of
Rwana to train local community leaders to be HIV case workers and equip them
with bicycles for transportation.

To ensure the sustainability of the bicycle component of the project, they
will develop a bicycle repair shop, recruit volunteer bicycle mechanics,
train case workers in basic bicycle maintenance, and equip them with all
necessary safety and repair items. Sopo needs financial and in kind
donations to make this project happen!

Drop one off at your favorite business and let them know there is a demand
for biking. We'll help them do the rest! As we wrap up 2007 and look
forward to 2008, we hope you will support ABC during this time of transition
and new initiatives.

We are striving to operate as efficiently as possible with your donations,
and have made money-saving changes such as switching to internet phone
service, moving into less expensive office space, using talented and
dedicated volunteers to implement projects whenever possible, and even
switching our online donations to Google Checkout (free for nonprofits).

ABC appreciates the generosity of its members and supporters with their
time, talent, and treasure. As always, thank you for being a part of
making biking better!
