Tale of Two Parties

"...Democrats...play politics as if it were a game they invented. Republican
politicians...play politics as if it were football played by girls' rules."

Hillary Rears Her Ugly Head

"Sen. Hillary Clinton has surprised many of us by behaving like a serious
mainstream politician for more than two years. But the strain is showing.
The positive outcome of the Trent Lott affair seems to have revived the old
Hillary. She has spotted yet another vast right-wing conspiracy, this time a
vast Republican racist one.

"She said: 'If anyone thinks that one person stepping down from a leadership
position cleanses the Republican Party of their constant exploitation of
race, then I think you're nave.' The nasty rhetoric reflects Democratic
disappointment that Lott stepped down.

"...Clinton's rhetoric says, in effect, that Republicans are permanently
racist, an ugly smear. . . . The Democratic strategy, it seems, is to keep
hammering away at what racists Republicans are in hopes of scaring
minorities from the GOP and making it harder for President Bush to name
conservative and moderate judges."

Knows From What She Speaks

"Hillary Rodham Clinton publicly pronounced that what Mr. Lott 'did was
state publicly what many of them [Republicans] have stated privately over
many years in the back roads and back streets of the South.' And she spent a
lot of time in the 'back roads and back streets of the South,' chasing down
her errant hubby."

The Coming Partisan Race War

".(I)n all likelihood Democrats are going to ratchet racial politics to a
new level of stridency. We're going to see it against Sen. Bill Frist (it's
already begun), in every future election (Florida was just a teaser) and in
major judicial appointments. There is currently an unspoken litmus test
against pro-life judicial nominees imposed by Democratic members of the
Senate Judiciary Committee. That will doubtlessly extend now to Southern
judges (who will presumptively be deemed racists)."

Sheltered Lives of Black "Leaders"

"While the outspoken Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have stakes in what
happens in our communities, their cloisters are not threatened. They have
bodyguards. They don't have to walk to bus stops in the wee hours of the
morning, just as the killers and thieves and prostitutes are turning in for
the day. They don't have to worry about their children walking through
alleyways littered with crack bags and used hypodermic needles, and they
don't have to worry about their children stepping on used condoms on
playgrounds, either. They're too busy juggling their scheduled TV
appearances and frequent-flyer miles."

Goldwater & Civil Rights

Coming tomorrow in "Muth's Truths": In his own words, why Sen. Barry
Goldwater voted against the 1964 civil rights bill. And get this, it was
based on constitutional principles. What an extremist! To read all the

Taking the White Out of Christmas

"On December 24, 1971, the New York Times ran one of the first of many
articles on a new holiday designed to foster unity among African-Americans.
The holiday, called Kwanzaa, was applauded by a certain 16-year-old minister
who explained that the feast would perform the valuable service of
'de-whitizing' Christmas. The minister was a nobody at the time but he would
later go on to become perhaps the premier race-baiter of the 20th century.
His name was Al Sharpton.

"...Great minds think alike. The inventor of the holiday (Ron Karenga) was
one of the few black 'leaders' in America even worse than Sharpton. . . .
Karenga certainly seems to have had a low opinion of his fellow
African-Americans. 'People think it's African, but it's not,' he said about
the his holiday. . . . 'I came up with Kwanzaa because black people in this
country wouldn't celebrate it if they knew it was American. Also, I put it
around Christmas because I knew that's when a lot of bloods would be
partying.' "

Money, Class Size Not Cures for Lousy Skools

"(I)f money were the answer (to a better education), Washington public
schools would be the best in the nation, if not the world. Per student
expenditures are $10,500 a year, second highest in the nation. With a
student-teacher ration of 15.8, they have smaller-than-average class sizes.
What is the result? In only one of the city's 19 high schools do as many as
50 percent of its students test as proficient in reading, and at no school
are 50 percent of the students proficient in math."

Another Clintonista Comin' Home to Roost

"A millionaire Filipino businessman and lawmaker was bound for Miami Friday
to face serious felony charges, including 17 relating to allegedly illegal
contributions to the 1996 Clinton-Gore re-election campaign. Mark Jimenez
gave himself over to U.S. officials at the Ninoy Aquino International
Airport late Thursday, and began the long journey back to Florida via Guam,
Honolulu and Houston."

Gay Marriage vs. Heterosexual Divorce

"Ah. Homosexuality as litmus test. Hardly a week goes by that we don't hear
about one church or another wrangling with this issue. And I have to ask:
Why? Sure, the Bible makes a few negative references to homosexuals. But the
Bible says a lot about a lot of things. Why is this issue getting stuck in
everyone's craw?

"...I have (a) theory: It's easy. At best, gays make up only 10 percent of
the population. Of those, few go to church - partly because churches haven't
been all that welcoming. . . . What do churches have to lose by slamming
people who are probably either in the closet or don't go to church at all?

"If righteous religious folks really wanted to be brave, they'd tackle the
issue of divorce. After all, Jesus never said anything about gays in the
Gospels, but he did have a few choice words about divorce. . . . Of course,
this issue affects a much larger proportion of congregants.

"...Spiritually speaking, I don't think it's important whether a person is
gay or divorced. But if people are going to get on their high horse by
taking the Bible literally, they should be consistent. I challenge religious
leaders to tackle the divorce issue first, before they even bring up the gay
one."

Lottery Fever

"(The lottery jackpot) story was unavoidable if you were watching TV news
yesterday; CNN even aired a press conference by the winner (a man from West
Virginia). Why is this news? . . . Why all the fuss over someone who got
rich by indulging in a vice?

"All this media attention to lottery winners serves only to glorify
gambling. And the lottery is a bigger rip-off than any other form of
legalized gambling.. . . A lottery, Innumeracy.com notes, is 'a tax on the
poor and the stupid.' The next time some liberal journalist complains about
'tax cuts for the rich,' consider how his colleagues in the media help
enable the government to soak the poor."
