How About "Diversity" In Oil?

" 'Why are we importing oil from countries that are exporting lethal
terrorism by groups who hate our freedoms and despise our way of life?' Sen.
Conrad Burns asks. At a December 6 energy summit in Moscow, the Montana
Republican bluntly discussed the dangers of U.S. dependence on 'rogue oil.'

"...As America wages the War on Terror, we immediately should adopt a
strategy to slash or end our dependence on rogue oil. We should follow the
advice Winston Churchill offered as World War II loomed: 'Safety and
certainty in oil lie in variety and variety alone.' "

The Power of "Preferred Minorities"

"As the Lott imbroglio unfolded, white people watched with trepidation the
dissolution of their First Amendment rights and the onset of thought
control. Many knew instinctively that the difficulty in which Sen. Trent
Lott found himself was not really about him, but about the power of
'preferred minorities' to censure white people and destroy their careers.

".'Preferred minority' has become an official government term. Nothing could
be clearer than that the U.S. Constitution allows for no such person or
persons. Yet, for 37 years we have watched the creation of a class of
preferred people, a new aristocracy. And now they have been given the power
to shut the rest of us up."

- Columnist Paul Craig Roberts

Little Progress Over Long Time

"...President Johnson signed the 1964 Civil Rights Act ordering
desegregation of public accommodations. Sen. Barry Goldwater, the 1964
Republican presidential candidate, voted against it. . . . Goldwater won 6
percent of black votes. George W. Bush won 8 percent.

"...So what can Mr. Bush do, in keeping with Republican principles, to start
winning back blacks? Pick good fights. Confront Democrats where they oppose
the interests of most blacks.

"On three such issues Mr. Bush has staked his ground, but hasn't forced a
national debate: school choice, Social Security privatization and
permanently abolishing death taxes."

- Terence P. Jeffrey, editor, Human Events

Goldwater & the Civil Rights Act

In his own words, why Sen. Barry Goldwater voted against the 1964 civil
rights bill. And get this, it was based on constitutional principles. What
an extremist! Read all about it in the latest "Muth's Truths" column at:

Your Union Dues At Work

There is one humdinger of a scandal unfolding at the Washington Teachers'
Union. Seems a couple of those champions of the working stiff decided to
loot the union's coffers in order to live the high life of the rich and
famous. On Sunday, the Washington Times listed in an editorial some examples
of the shopping spree former WTU president Barbara Bullock enjoyed on the
workers' dime:

*  $150,000 at Neiman Marcus

* $57,000 for a 288-piece Tiffany sterling silver set at MS Rau Antiques in
New Orleans

* $50,000 at Snazzy Limited in Orange Park, Fla.

*  $50,000 at Nordstrom

* $40,000 at Saks Fifth Avenue

* $25,000 at Parkway cleaners in Chevy Chase

*  $12,000 at Hecht's

*  $11,000 at Friedman's Shoes in Atlanta

*  $9,000 at Bloomingdale's

*  $6,000 at Williams-Sonoma

* $5,000 at Galt Bros. Jewelry

* $4,000 at St. John Boutique, Beverly Hills

*  $4,000 at Tiffany's

Seems EVERYBODY wants to be a rich Republican these days...even union
bosses. It'd be nice, however, if they would EARN it instead of stealing it.
Guess some old habits are just hard to break.

Pit-bull Amongst Passive Puppies

"A young, tenacious journalist did our country a great service this year by
refusing to accept conventional wisdom and the status quo. He blew the
whistle on powerful figures of authority, exposed deceit and forced change.
But you won't see him celebrated on the cover of Time magazine.

"That's because Joel Mowbray, a Townhall.com columnist and reporter for
National Review magazine and its online counterpart, is too politically
incorrect and fearlessly skeptical of official lies to be embraced by the
media elite.

"Mr. Mowbray, 26, hammered the State Department and scooped the jaded
Beltway press corps with story after story exposing the bureaucratic
foul-ups and diplomatic sellouts that led to national security nightmares.

"...Gutsy and tireless, Mr. Mowbray has only just begun. His unyielding
pursuit of the truth in the interest of national security may be bad news
for the State Department. But it's welcome news for all Americans who prefer
pit-bull journalism to the passive puppy act so common in the media today.
