Must Be Wearing Nike's

"The news that the Iraqis have captured French journalists shows that they
will be no pushover. Any soldier who can catch a Frenchman in a war zone
can run VERY fast."

- News & Views reader Quentin Langley

So Much for Giving Peace a Chance

"WE SUPPORT OUR TROOPS WHEN THEY SHOOT THEIR OFFICERS"

- Anti-war protest sign in San Francisco, alluding to the grenade attack by
an American soldier against his fellow soldiers in Kuwait last weekend

Silent Majority Speaks

The left has anti-liberation Hollyweird actors, ditzy chicks and the French
Democrats. Naturally, these are the buffoons covered by the media. Well,
now it's time for the "silent majority" of Americans to speak up. Please
join the "Virtual March from the Right" by signing an online petition
affirming support for our troops AND our President. You can join the
virtual march by going to: http://www.RightMarch.com

Cheering in the Arab Street

Reported in the Jerusalem Post after the first Americans were captured and
killed in Iraq:

>From a Palestinian policeman at Yasser Arafat's headquarters: "Everyone here
was happy to see pictures of American soldiers in Iraqi custody. This is a
big blow for [George W.] Bush and [Tony] Blair. I don't believe they will be
able to continue with the war now that many of their soldiers are being
killed or taken prisoner."

>From a member of Yasser Arafat's presidential guard: "Saddam has once again
proven that he is a great leader, a defender of Arab rights. His men are
brave. They have been able to teach the American and British dogs an
unforgettable lesson. The Iraqis are much better at war because they have
more experience. The American and British soldiers are cowards and spoiled
kids."

Franco Bluster

"France will not accept a resolution of this nature tending to legitimize
the military intervention and giving the American and British belligerents
the right to administer Iraq. ... Whatever the results of the military
operation, [Iraq] must be rebuilt, and for that there is just one forum, the
United Nations."

- French President Jacques Chirac, 3/21/03

Don't Call Us, We'll Call You

"The United States should exclude the United Nations from any
non-humanitarian nation-building role in post-liberated Iraq. We fought the
war. We won the war. And only we hold both the capacity and incentive to
fashion Iraq into a civilized nation unthreatening to neighbors. The United
Nations Security Council and Secretary General Kofi Annan moved heaven and
earth to sabotage the Iraqi liberation."

- Columnist Bruce Fein

Feeding the Hand that Bites You

"Has there ever been a president who worked harder than Bush to conciliate
and befriend his opponents? He appointed a Democrat, Norman Mineta, to his
Cabinet, and put another Democrat, John DiIulio, in charge of his signature
faith-based initiative. He signed a bill that affixed Robert Kennedy's name
to the Justice Department building; renominated Clinton judges whose
nominations had lapsed when President Clinton's term ended; compromised his
education bill to accommodate Democratic ideas; and rarely, if ever,
criticized any Democratic officeholder. Yet all this symbolic and
substantive bipartisanship has done Bush no good."

- Columnist David Frum in the Los Angeles Times

****************************************
As Low As You Can Go

"Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle's bitter attack on President Bush's
handling of the Iraq conflict, just as U.S. forces were heading into war,
hit a new low in partisan politics. Playing politics domestically was once
off-limits when our country was poised to plunge into battle. . . .
Politicking during wartime was an unwritten, understood taboo because, to
the rest of the world, we must be a truly united state during times of
crisis."

- Columnist Donald Lambro

***************************************
Daschle's Democrats

"Democrats speak out on the war. As Democratic leaders led by Tom Daschle
have fulfilled their constitutional duties by holding President Bush
accountable for his actions, Republicans have responded with personal
attacks that question the patriotism of Democrats."

- Memo from Democrat National Committee Chairman and former Clinton bag-man
Terry McCauliffe

Daschle's Man in Hollywood

"I've invited my fellow documentary nominees on the stage. We would like
to--they're here in solidarity with me because we like non-fiction. We like
non-fiction and we live in fictitious times. We live in a time where we have
fictitious election results that elect a fictitious president. We live in a
time where we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons, whether
it's the fictition [sic] of duct tape, or the fictitious [sic] of orange
alert. We are against this war Mr. Bush! Shame on you Mr. Bush! Shame on
you! And any time you've got the pope and Dixie Chicks against you, your
time is up! Thank you very much!!!"

- "Filmmaker" Michael Moore's acceptance speech at the Oscars

Hollywood's Shame

Roman Polanski, convicted of having unlawful sex with a 13-year-old at actor
Jack Nicholson's house in 1997, fled the U.S. and now lives in France (where
else?). According to the Associated Press, when the fugitive child molester
was named as recipient of this year's best-director award at the Oscars,
"the announcement sparked cheers from the crowd and a standing ovation from
many." Uh-huh. The same crowd that is now undermining our troops and
telling the world that "War Is Not the Answer." The world, especially in
light of the Polanski episode, should consider the source.

When Confronted With Reality.

"Within the first hours of the war, Iraq fired Scud missiles - that Hans
Blix could not find and Saddam claimed not to have - at American and British
troops. Don't expect the anti-war crowd to notice this. Up to the very last
minute, they were arguing inspections had 'worked.' Having been proved so
wrong, they will not reconsider. They will instead do what they always do -
assume that the world will forget and move on to the next thing."

- Columnist Mona Charen

***************************************
Honorable Objective

"George W. and Tony Blair are going out of their way - far, far out of their
way - to liberate (Iraq) and not conquer."

- Columnist Wesley Pruden

***************************************
Lofty Goals

"Slowly at first and then swiftly, more Americans and Iraqis will understand
that the President of the United States is presenting goals for freedom that
no other leader before him, in any country, dared face. They are direct
challenges to terrorism, its horrors, threats and its growth. And they have
brought out starkly the need to change the outdated and often destructive
operation of the United Nations, to change it or completely replace it.
They are goals of honor that will benefit nations around the world."

- Columnist A.M. Rosenthal

***************************************
Who Lost the Peace?

"When it came down to it, two of America's closest Cold War allies - France
and Germany - were unwilling to bear the responsibility of major powers when
it came to Iraq. They weren't there when we - and the world - needed them.

"Instead, they carped, complained, delayed, and even sabotaged efforts by
the United States to make the fight in Iraq a united front. Rather than
prevent war, they made it impossible to avoid. Had France and Germany joined
a united Europe and United States in confronting Saddam Hussein, it is very
likely the crisis in Iraq would have been resolved peacefully."

- Bruce Bartlett of the National Center for Policy Analysis
