Another One Bites the Dust

"You hear about this? Connie Chung got fired. CNN fired her. It was cruel
how she found out. She was watching Fox News."

Stop...Or I'll Say Stop Again

"I am shocked that someone would make such statements," declared Columbia
University President Lee Bollinger in response to comments made by Prof.
Nicky "The Weasel" De Genova calling for "a million Mogadishus" leading to
defeat of the U.S. in Iraq, as well as referring to all "patriots" as white
supremacists.

"Because of the University's tradition of academic freedom, I normally don't
comment about statements made by faculty members," Bollinger continued in a
prepared statement. "However, this one crosses the line and I really feel
the need to say something. I am especially saddened for the families of
those whose lives are at risk," he concluded.

That's it?

He was "shocked" (and awed?) and really felt the need to "say something" -
but then didn't even say anything other than that he was "saddened"? Who's
he think he is, Tom Daschle?

Talk is cheap. President Bollinger needs to take this nutty professor to
the proverbial woodshed and give him MUCH more than a little tongue lashing.
If you have any suggestions (where'd I put that tar and feathers?), you can
email them to President Bollinger at: [EMAIL PROTECTED] .

Bloody Friday in Halabja

"Joy and happiness permeated the air in Halabja. Smiles never faded from the
lips of the ever oppressed people of this town.

"The Iraqi fighter planes carried out the chemical bombing of Halabja, and
some hours later the news came that Khormal, too, had suffered chemical
bombing. The sound of laughter died down. Children sought the shelter of
their mothers' arms.

"March 16, was the beginning of the great crime of history. On Thursday
March 17, 1988, and on Friday March 18, there took place one of the most
shameful and fearful inhumane crimes of history in Halabja. The town of
Halabja was bombed with chemical and cluster bombs more than twenty times by
Iraqi fighter planes. In every street and alley women and children rolled
over one another. The sound of crying and groans rose from every house in
the town."

- Description of Saddam Hussein's chemical attack on Halabja in 1988 as
described on a website maintained by the Kurdistan Democratic Party. A
complete description, including photos of the attack, can be found at
http://www.kdp.pp.se/chemical.html .

But be WARNED. These photos are VERY disturbing and are not for the
faint-of-heart. You might want to think twice before going to this web
page. Then again, maybe it's time for some "Americans" (Hello, Prof. De
Genova) and other anti-war protesters to have their eyes opened to this
harsh reality. Sometimes, war IS the answer.

Self-Hate from the Left

"In their hatred for the United States, today's anti-Americans even find
themselves close to making excuses for the barbarity of Saddam Hussein, the
cruelty of the Taliban, and the malevolence of al-Qaeda. There is something
truly sickening in the sight of people who call themselves liberals finding
more fault in America than in the dictatorships now pitted against the
 West."

- Columnist Andrew Sullivan, The American Enterprise, April-May 2003

Understanding That Free Speech Thingy

"A Dixie Chick, or Martin Sheen, or anybody else has the ABSOLUTE RIGHT to
say anything they want without fear of going to jail in America. However,
the only reason anyone reports what they say is because of their celebrity.
The only reason they are celebrities is because people pay to see them sing,
or act, or whatever.

"Those same people have the absolute right to CEASE paying them if the
singers and actors, in the opinion of the people who are paying the bills,
misuse that celebrity status to make a political point. Everyone has the
Constitutional right to say stupid things. There is no Constitutional
protection against suffering financially for having said them.

"You wouldn't pay to hear me sing. You shouldn't pay to hear the Dixie
Chicks deliver political commentary."

- Rich Galen, Mullings.com, 3/28/03

Peaceniks Tying Up Homeland Security

"The (New York anti-war) demonstrators are costing the city millions of
dollars in police overtime, drawing resources away from crime-fighting and
anti-terrorism operations, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Wednesday.
'This is more than protest, more than free speech,' Mr. Kelly said. 'We're
talking about violating the law.'"

- "American Scene," Washington Times, 3/28/03

It Ain't Easy Being Yellow

"(The) loony antiwar protesters have a seemingly pathological need to be
heard and acknowledged. Right. We hear you already. No blood for oil. War
is not the answer. Give Hans Blix a chance. . . . They have held sit-ins,
die-ins, lay-ins, smell-ins and bad-hair-ins. They care so deeply. They feel
the world's pain. As tormented as they are, they probably pick at their
meals and have trouble falling asleep at night."

- Columnist Tom Knott

Don't Mess with Military Wives

"Had to laugh on the Susan Sarandon event cancellation in Florida. She
should be glad for it, as Tampa is the home of McDill AFB, which is CENTCOM
and SOCCENT (central command and special operations command) HQ. Susan
thinks she's seen the world, but she's never seen ANYTHING until she's seen
a bunch of military wives left behind. We're ornery, we're horny, and we
have a huge appetite for eating anti-war (read 'anti-our-guys') protesters.
She's LUCKY they cancelled on her."

- News & Views reader L. Armstrong

The Enemy Within

"As war unfolds, Iraqi sleeper cells and al Qaeda operatives aren't the only
threats we face on the domestic front. Homegrown environmental radicals cast
their own fatwah on America last week. And they're not just talking about
lighting tea candles while they sing Bob Dylan tunes in their Birkenstocks.
These anarchist menaces are deadly serious about undermining national
security through physical and economic harm."

- Columnist Michelle Malkin

Insulting Astronauts

"On the Monday after the Columbia shuttle disaster, Katie Couric of the
Today Show said of the seven astronauts that 'they were an airborne United
Nations.' She meant it as a compliment; but as a friend of mine commented at
the time, 'it's not nice to speak ill of the dead.'

"Liberal enthusiasm for the United Nations is possible only because liberals
are willing to pretend that the U.N. actually is what it ought to be. The
Columbia's crew was a highly competent and principled collection of seven
disparate individuals dedicated to a common goal-- and led by the United
States.

"The actual United Nations is most often a Babel of Jackassery, occasionally
a kabuki theater for tyrants, and only extremely rarely does it resemble
anything remotely as noble or dedicated as the crew of the Columbia."

- Columnist Jonah Goldberg, The American Enterprise, April-May 2003

The Great White RINOs

"In a stunning reversal, the president's tax-cut proposal was chopped in
half in a 51-to-48 Senate vote to reduce the 'cost' of the cut to $350
billion from $725 billion. . . . When (Republican senators) Olympia Snow of
Maine, Ohio's George Voinovich, and Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island decided
to turn their backs and walk away from their wartime commander-in-chief in
the Tuesday vote, they performed a remarkable act of cowardice and
ingratitude.

"Cowardice because extraordinary times like these require a strong backbone
to buck the chorus of liberal Beltway critics who always find a reason to
oppose tax cuts. Ingratitude because these Republican senators would never
have enjoyed control of the Senate were it not for the Herculean campaign
efforts of President Bush last November."

- Columnist Larry Kudlow

Can't Have It Both Ways on Race

"Either race tells us something significant about an individual, or it doesn
't. If law enforcement agencies can't use race to prevent crime or
terrorism, than neither can universities use race to achieve racially
proportionate student bodies. It's that simple."

- Columnist Edward Blum & Roger Clegg

You Can't Fix Stupid

"In the long run, the greatest weapon of mass destruction is stupidity. In
an age of artificial intelligence, too many of our schools are producing
artificial stupidity, in the sense of ideas and attitudes far more foolish
than young people would have arrived at on their own. . . . Only Americans
can destroy America. But too many of our schools have for years been quietly
undermining the values and abilities that are needed to preserve any
society -- and especially a free society."

- Columnist Thomas Sowell

Liberal Talk Radio

"In fact, liberal talk radio is alive, kicking and very, very good - on the
taxpayer- and listener-subsidized National Public Radio network. . . .
(C)onservative pundits are right: Liberal talk radio won't work on
commercial frequencies. But that's not because there's no audience. It's
because the liberal talk audience has plenty to listen to. They don't need
any more."

- Columnist Lawrence Henry, Spectator.com

Testing, Testing

The Nevada legislature is considering a measure which would make it the
first state in the nation to require periodic testing of physicians to
determine their competency. This sounds like it might be a reasonable idea,
even though the motivation behind the move is purely to punish the doctors
for daring to challenge the trial lawyers over the issue of medical
malpractice. So look for Democrats to widely support this notion.

But this raises an interesting question and a dilemma for those Democrats:
If periodic competency testing is a good idea for health care professionals,
why isn't it a good idea for government school teachers? Hmmm?

Granny Bags a Burglar

"Margaret Summey credits God -- and her .357 Magnum -- with protecting her
from a burglar Thursday. Police say Summey, a 64-year-old widow, shot
43-year-old Timothy Doyle Huitt after he broke into her McGill Drive home.
After being shot, Huitt fled through Summey's yard, leaving a trail of blood
that led from her home to nearby Berry Shoals Road, where he collapsed. 'I
did what I had to do. That's what the police told me. I protected myself,'
Summey said. . . . "(Upon hearing the burglar) I went straight and got the
.357 Magnum,' she said. 'I would have used a shotgun, but I had just had
new countertops done and I didn't want to tear up the kitchen.'"
