***************************************** Reverse Course! Reverse Course! "The termination of 10 minority employees at the Democratic National Committee this week was a mistake that never received formal approval, a party official said yesterday." - Washington Times, 5/30/03 ****************************************** Liberals Say the Stupidest Things Get a load of Blaine Rummel, spokesman for the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence. Rummel tells the Washington Times "There isn't a shred of evidence that says gun control is a political loser. It hasn't cost a candidate a political race anywhere." Apparently, Rummel missed the entire presidential campaign of Al Gore in 2000. But Rummel went even further. Here's one of the dumbest things you'll ever want to hear from a left-wing goofball: "The Democrats ran away from gun safety in the 2002 elections, and look where it got them. Whoever is advising them on gun control should be shot." Should be shot? Hoo-hah. A leading gun control wacko heading an organization whose name decries "gun violence" is suggesting that people advising Democrats on gun safety "should be shot"? Even Jason Blair couldn' t make this stuff up. ***************************************** Defining Issue Democrats are in big trouble over the national security issue. A new poll shows that almost half of voters who would otherwise vote for a particular candidate said they would disqualify that candidate if he or she was perceived as being weak on terrorism. Doesn't that pretty much wipe out the entire Democrat field of presidential candidates? ***************************************** What's His Name, What's His Name...He's Our Man. "If you happen to know who is running for president on the Democratic side, count yourself among the minority who cares. Two-thirds of the public, 66 percent, could not name any of the nine current Democratic presidential candidates in a May CBS/New York Times poll." - Columnist Clarence Page ***************************************** God Bless the United Nations For a perfect example of why Democrats are getting killed on the national security issue, we present you Rep. Sam Farr, California Democrat, who is proudly flying the United Nations flag over the doorway of his Capitol Hill office. "We've got to do everything in our power to make the U.N. the leadership body it was intended to be," the Farr-out congressman told the San Francisco Chronicle, adding that President Bush "has no respect for the United Nations." Duh. I wonder why? ************************************ 4.75 cents-per-minute Long Distance * All state-to-state calls in the continental U.S. * Residential or commercial * 6-second billing increments * 24 hours/day * 7 days/week * No access codes * No minimums * No activation fees * Calling Card Rate is 10 cents per minute * No monthly service charge unless your bill is less than $20.00 a month (then a $1.99 service charge will apply) * No need to change your local phone company * No hassles * Easy sign-up. * And a small portion of each bill goes to help continue publishing our FREE Chuck Muth's News & Views e-newsletter. Following her 1997 conversion to Islam, Sultaana Freeman (formerly Sandra Keller) was arrested in Decatur, Illinois for battering a foster child. Freeman, 35, pleaded guilty in 1999 to felony aggravated battery and was sentenced to 18 months probation. As a result of the conviction, state officials removed two foster children from Freeman's care." - TheSmokingGun.com, 5/28/03 ***************************************** Free Speech A court on Friday upheld a South Carolina dairy's decision to fire a worker for displaying a Confederate flag sticker on his workbox. A black co-worker had complained that the sticker violated the dairy's policy against harassment. As stupid as we think the policy is - and lament the black worker making a federal case out of something so silly - we have to side with the court in defending a private company's right to establish its own rules. The First Amendment means CONGRESS shall make no law infringing upon the free speech of its citizens. The rules established by a private employer over its employees is another thing altogether. However, we'd sure like to test this theory on an issue that isn't quite so politically correct. I don't know if it is or isn't, but let's say the dairy in question is a non-union company. And let's say some union agitators started stirring up trouble, including carrying around tool boxes with union propaganda stickers on them. And let's say a real worker who doesn't need or want a greedy union doing his talking for him complains, saying the union stickers were a form of harassment. And let's say the dairy was consistent and fired the pro-union agitator. Do you think the court would have ruled the same way? Neither do I. ***************************************** Spoken Like a True Socialist Columnist Andrew Sullivan serves up this tasty morsel in his "Weekly Dish" column. In an interview with Howard Kurtz of CNN's "Reliable Sources," liberal commentator and screen-writer Lawrence O'Donnell was asked why there weren't any network TV shows with credible Republican characters. Replied O 'Donnell. "You will never get that TV show. You'll never, ever get the Republican TV show. The Writers Guild of America, my union, is at a minimum, 99 percent leftist liberal and, like me, socialist. And we don't know how to write it. We don't." ***************************************** Speech Police Target Catholic Cardinal Cardinal Francis Arinze, a Nigerian seen as a possible successor to Pope John Paul II, stirred up a hornet's nest in a speech at Georgetown University on May 17. The cardinal depicted the family as being "under siege" and "opposed by an anti-life mentality as is seen in contraception, abortion, infanticide and euthanasia. It is scorned and banalized by pornography, desecrated by fornication and adultery, mocked by homosexuality, sabotaged by irregular unions and cut in two by divorce." Said one student who took particular offense at the reference to homosexuality, "With all due respect for the cardinal's opinions, I don't think he should have been voicing them." Huh? A Catholic cardinal who may one day end up being the Pope shouldn't be voicing his opinions on a social issue at a Catholic university? Go figure. ****************************************** Affordable Campaign Websites! Now you can get professional-looking campaign web sites for as little as $10 a month. Supposedly this memorial will promote 'reconciliation' and 'healing,' according to both the Republican and Democratic supporters of this proposal. "It is hard to imagine that any sane adult actually believes those words. You know and I know a slave memorial will not reconcile anybody to anybody nor heal any racial divisions. Just the opposite. "A slave memorial is guaranteed to become a magnet for every race hustler from Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton down to any local demagogue who can scare up a crowd to go stand in front of the slave memorial and spew venom at American society on TV." - Columnist Thomas Sowell ***************************************** Home Schoolers Continue to Excel "Once again this year, home schoolers were among the best students in both the national spelling and geography bees. Even though students from public schools dominate the contests, home-schooled students are making their presence - and their smarts - known to people around country, and supporters say that is boosting the movement's image." - CNSNews.com, 5/30/03 ********************************** How to Subscribe If you know someone who might like to receive News & Views, you can sign 'em up at: http://www.chuckmuth.com.
