Regarding Our WMD Ad...

"Chuck: Thank you! Finally we have someone who will stand up to these
lying, Bush-hating liberals for all of us 'real Americans.' When the WMDs
finally turn up, they will act like they never said a thing! Here's my
hundred bucks. God bless America, and keep up the good work!"

- Dr. Steve Brown of Harrisonburg, VA

Thanks a Lot, Bill

"(O)n the war on terror, Clinton was an utter and total failure. . . . All
our terrorist problems were born during the Clinton years. . . . All three
critical situations America faces today - al Qaeda, Iraq, and North Korea -
were either incubated or exacerbated on Bill Clinton's watch. . . . Bill
Clinton deliberately postponed dealing with this trio of threats so he could
leave office under a seemingly sunny sky."

- Former Clinton adviser Dick Morris in his new book, "Off With Their
 Heads," The Hill, 6/25/03

Conservatives Troubled by Drug Bill

"Conservatives in the House have major concerns about the chamber's Medicare
prescription drug bill, expected to come to the floor tomorrow, and some say
it would be better to join with Democrats to defeat the measure rather than
to pass it as written.

"'I'm planning to vote no,' said Rep. Jim DeMint, South Carolina Republican.
'I'm convinced this is a prescription for socialized medicine. ... I want to
change it or stop it.'

"'I believe the conservatives in the House are the last line of defense,'
said Rep. Mike Pence, Indiana Republican.

"...Mr. DeMint said Medicare is not working, and the House bill makes it
worse by adding another costly promise of prescription drugs. . . . 'One
more massive federal entitlement is, simply put, one more disaster,' said
Mr. Pence, who wants a drug benefit only for the poorest seniors."

OK, Take Two Giant Steps Backward

"Taken together, Monday's two Supreme Court rulings on racial preferences in
college admissions policy represent a large step backward - away from the
goal of a colorblind society."

- Washington Times editorial, 6/25/03

*****************************************
No More Souters

"There's been a cry in the conservative community - no more David Souters. I
think this shows the reason why."

- Phil Kent, president of the Southeastern Legal Foundation, on Justice
Souter's - appointed by the first President Bush - votes to uphold racial
discrimination in college admissions in the University of Michigan cases,
Washington Times, 6/25/03

*****************************************
25 More Years of Racial Discrimination

"(W)e expect that 25 years from now, the use of racial preferences will no
longer be necessary."

- Justice Sandra Day O'Connor writing the majority opinion upholding the use
of racial discrimination in college admissions in the just-decided
University of Michigan case

*****************************************
Illegal Now, Illegal Then

"I agree with the (Supreme Court's) holding that racial discrimination in
higher education admissions will be illegal in 25 years. They are illegal
now."

- Justice Clarence Thomas in his dissent on the recently-decided University
of Michigan case

*****************************************
Barking Mad

"What a cunning man (Supreme Court Justice) Clarence Thomas is. He knew
that he could not make a powerful legal argument against racial preferences,
given the fact that he got into Yale Law School and got picked for the
Supreme Court thanks to his race. So he made a powerful psychological
argument against what the British call 'positive discrimination,' known here
as affirmative action. . . .

"The dissent is a clinical study of a man who has been driven barking mad by
the beneficial treatment he has received. It's poignant, really. It makes
him crazy that people think he is where he is because of his race, but he is
where he is because of his race. . . . Maybe he is disgusted with his own
great historic ingratitude."

- New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd

Odd Ruling

"(I)t is odd that the Constitution means one thing in 2003 and could mean
another in 2028 - that it permits discrimination today but not, or might
not, tomorrow."

- Terry Eastland, publisher, The Weekly Standard

*****************************************
No Sense

"For the Supreme Court to kind of wink and say an aggressive affirmative
action is bad, [but] subtle affirmative action is good for a certain period
of time just makes no sense to me."

- House Majority Leader Tom Delay (R-Texas)

We Want Dean! We Want Dean!

"Frankly, I don't see any way (President George W. Bush) can be beaten by
any Democrat now in the field, nor do I see anyone standing in the wings who
would do better. I think most Democrats know this. That is one thing
fueling the campaign of former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, probably the most
left-wing candidate to seriously compete for the Democratic nomination since
George McGovern in 1972.

"Rank-and-file Democrats figure that since they can't win anyway, the more
electable candidates like Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry and Missouri Rep.
Richard Gephardt have no advantage owing to that fact. If Democrats are
going down in flames anyway, the base figures they might as well do so
behind someone who speaks to their soul, rather than some pale imitation."

- Columnist Bruce Bartlett

Wow, Here's a Real Shocker

When In Canada, Do As the Canadians

"If a (gay) 'couple' goes to Canada and gets married and doesn't like the
laws in America, then they should stay in Canada, where they should have
exactly the same legal rights as every other Canadian."

- News & Views reader Dennis Miller of Mesa, AZ

Yeah, Let's Keep Dumping MORE Money Into the Gov't Schools

"D.C. public school officials cannot account for more than $1.6 million in
employee-issued credit-card charges, which include improper purchases for
hotel services, food, gifts and 'items prone to mysterious disappearance,'
city auditors have found."

- Washington Times, 6/25/03

Putting the Family Back in Education

"I am a teacher involved in the public education system. I fully support
the Bryants in their battle. Families should make every effort they can to
educate their own children! In the government system, we claim that family
involvement is vital, then appear to do everything we can to squelch it."

- News & Views reader Bob James

Of Course, It's for "The Children"

California Gov. Gray Davis, a typical tax-and-spend Democrat, has run up a
$38 billion budget deficit and is now pushing for tax hikes and program cuts
to stop the red ink. This has Tim Robbins, one of our least-favorite
Hollywood limousine liberals, whining like a baby. Poor Timmy is scared to
death that the governor might "remove financing from arts organizations" and
says such cuts would be "disastrous."

Yeah, government handouts to "artists" are much more critical to the
community than, say, education, roads, police, fire or...gosh
forbid...ELECTRICITY.

Of course, Robbins trotted out the ol' "Kids Card," saying "cutting of arts
programs" means that "the people that are going to suffer most from it are
going to be children." Yes, yes...of course.

These people are as predictable as the sun rising in the east.
