Zero Casualties Not Reasonable Expectation

"As a Vietnam Vet, I don't agree with the Leftist scare mongering of 'daily
body counts' in Iraq, and I am well pleased that our casualty figures are so
incredibly low. While the loss of even a single soldier is regrettable, it
is not reasonable to believe in 'zero casualties' as a governing principle
when dealing with thugs. Every year, there are many law enforcement officers
killed right here in America by our own thug citizens! Should we then send
all police officers home to prevent them from being killed by criminals?"

Mystery Solved

"Michael Moore is an entertainer? I didn't know that. To the best of my
knowledge he's never said or done anything that might be considered
entertaining. I have noted, however, that Michael Moore and Al Franken have
never appeared together, side by side, which leads me to believe that Al
Franken is actually Michael Moore in drag."

No Confidence in Nine Dwarfs

Fedeyeen Fever Hits Democrats

"Former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein and his upstart 'Straight Talk Jihad'
presidential campaign completed the third day of a campaign swing across the
Hawkeye State Friday, buoyed by a new Des Moines Register poll showing
growing support among core Democratic voters.

"The latest Register Iowa Poll of likely Democratic caucus voters, conducted
between July 27 and July 29, shows Saddam leading the field with 23%
support, followed by former Vermont Governor Howard Dean with 17%,
Massachusetts Senator John Kerry with 16%, and write-in candidate Pol Pot
with 8%.

"Saddam showed even higher positives on specific key Democratic issue items,
such as 'the candidate who cares most about people like me' (46%), 'most
likely to stop the war' (59%), and 'most likely to feed Donald Rumsfeld into
an industrial shredder' (71%).

"...Such enthusiasm is far from universal, however. Some party members
privately express concern that a Democratic ticket headed by a ruthless
foreign dictator with genocidal tendencies may have unforeseen negative
consequences for the party, a fear that Democratic National Committee chief
Terry McAuliffe dismisses as 'nonsense.'

" 'Look, Saddam has a solid record of governance with over 25 years of
leadership experience,' said McAuliffe. 'And how can you call someone
'unelectable' when they won over 99.7% in their last race? Bush is the guy
who was never elected.'

When They're Right, They're Right

It's no secret that I think the Libertarian Party is a complete failure as a
political party because it fails miserably at the one thing a political
party is supposed to do: elect its candidates. Nevertheless, the common
sense libertarian philosophy when it comes to limited government and
individual liberty is indeed right out of the playbook of our Founding
Fathers. It's a darn shame more Republicans don't embrace it.

For an excellent example of what I'm talking about, surf over to the LP's
website and read Bill Winter's column on victimless crime laws. It's a
terrific, thoughtful piece. You can get to it by going to:

http://www.lp.org/lpnews/0308/libsolutions.html

If we can put peanut butter and chocolate together to come up with a great
candy, why, oh why can't somebody figure out a way to marry libertarian
thought to a political party that can actually get their candidates elected?
I'd join in a heartbeat.

Waaahhhh!!!

Texas Republicans have generously decided to send "care packages" to
Democrat state senators who are holed up in New Mexico after fleeing Texas
rather than participate in a special session of the state legislature. The
packages include:

* Pamper's Brand "Custom Fit Cruiser" Diapers, because Democrats need
underwear that reflects their childish behavior

* Baby rattles, so the Democrats have something to hold as they shake their
fists in the air

* Child leashes to keep them firmly attached to the national Democrat Party
leaders who ordered and are controlling the walkout

* Pacifiers to curb the incessant Democrat whining

"We hope that these behavior-appropriate items make the Democrats a little
more comfortable while they are AWOL from their elected duties," said Texas
GOP Chairman Susan Weddington. "The Democrats may be enjoying their
out-of-state vacation now, but when they get back to Texas the people are
going to send these rebellious senators straight to their rooms."

What I Hate About Unions

In Beaver County, Pa., a particular state park was overflowing with
illegally dumped used tires. A bunch of teenagers from the local Blackhawk
High School finally got so tired (so to speak) of the mess that they
voluntarily did something about it: they went in and cleaned it up. Didn't
get paid a nickel for their efforts. Bravo.

Now the unbelievable part...and the latest reason for despising today's
union movement.

After the kids finished cleaning up the eyesore, 15 members of the SEIU
filed a complaint. They said that cleaning up the filthy park was
contractually a union task and demanded $958 in back pay for work they never
did 'cause the kids did it for them.

Beaver County officials, to their credit, told the no-good lazy union
non-workers to pound dirt, with one commissioner calling the unionists "a
bunch of crybabies." Got that right. The greedy crybabies have appealed
the commission's decision not to pay the non-workers for work they never did
and the matter is now headed for arbitration.

Have these people no shame or any sense of personal pride? Can anybody with
a sound mind defend such chutzpah? Come on all you union defenders and
apologists...defend THIS!

Heads Should Roll for Cuban Decision

"Miami's Cuban community already is fuming that 12 asylum seekers were
shipped back to Cuba last week after being picked up about halfway to
Florida. U.S. law grants asylum only if refugees reach American soil. What
makes the case particularly outrageous is that U.S. bureaucrats negotiated
with Cuban communist officials to sentence the freedom seekers to 10-year
prison terms. It is not clear how high up the administration ladder this
decision was made, but somebody's head should roll."

- Washington Times editorial, 8/2/03

Brother Bush Scolds Brother Bush

"Florida Gov. Jeb Bush criticized his brother's administration for sending
12 Cuban hijack suspects back to certain punishment in Fidel Castro's
prisons and faulted the president for lacking a 'coherent policy' toward the
Caribbean island. . . . The fact that the president's own brother has
rebuked the administration's decision is an indication of the kind of
political damage that has been inflicted on President Bush since the
incident."

- Washington Times, 8/2/03

The Mean Dean Tax-Hike Machine

"Consistent with his punch-in-the-gut campaign style, (Howard) Dean wants
the full monty. In the name of his Vermont 'fiscal conservatism,' the
Democrats' new Presidential front-runner proposes to repeal all three of the
Bush tax cuts, right down to the last penny for every taxpayer. In addition,
as he recently told NBC's Tim Russert, he'd raise the income threshold on
the payroll tax, another huge tax increase on anyone making more than
$87,000 a year.

"...In pursuit of Mr. Dean, every Democratic Presidential candidate is now
proposing some kind of tax increase, from the humongous (in Mr. Dean's case,
$2 trillion over 10 years) to merely the huge. Not being masochists, they
must believe this will help them retake the White House.

Dem's Launch New Weapon of Mass Obstruction

On Thursday, Democrats in the Senate launched their third filibuster against
one of President Bush's judicial nominees, Bill Pryor. Sen. Ted Kennedy
declared, "Mr. Pryor is simply too ideological to serve as a federal judge."
We wonder if Uncle Ted has ever voted for a nominee who was "simply too
ideological" from the liberal side? We suspect he has, which suggests Sen.
Kennedy's statement was intentionally misleading. He should have been
honest and said, "Mr. Pryor is simply too CONSERVATIVE to serve as a federal
judge." But honesty in debate and Ted Kennedy have rarely, if ever, crossed
paths.

Kennedy's Nose Under the Tent

"Give the devil his due, Sen. Ted Kennedy is one helluva good politician -
one of the best. Mr. Kennedy practices his craft in the same manner and
style as the late Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan. He lures his philosophical
opponents with his bonhomie into believing they can 'work together.' He
seals the deal by making what appear to be strategic concessions to his
opponents that in fact turn out to be decoys baiting a carefully laid trap.

"Mr. Kennedy first played this trick on President George W. Bush back in
2001 when the president was seeking to increase parental choice in
education. Mr. Kennedy convinced the president his compromise bill would
lead to greater parental choice in education but instead it produced a
greater federal role in education and vastly diminished choice for parents.

"Now, he's doing it again on Medicare."

TSA Jeopardizing Safety in the Sky

"At the same time the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is
cutting federal air marshal flights, because it doesn't want to pay for
hotel accommodations for tired lawmen, the agency is continuing to drag its
feet on the program for training pilots to fly armed.

"This isn't just another example of bureaucratic stupidity; it is a textbook
case of criminal negligence. If TSA Chief James Loy and Homeland Security
Secretary Tom Ridge cannot grasp the importance of both programs to national
security, then it's time for them to clean out their desks, go home and
write their memoirs. The nation cannot afford this kind of empty leadership.

"...TSA spokesman Bruce Turmail insisted to MSNBC that his agency 'remains
committed to aviation security.' That's like an abortion activist
proclaiming a commitment to motherhood."

- Joe Waldron and Dave Workman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to
Keep and Bear Arms, Washington Times, 7/31/03

Whitey Need Not Apply

"In Oberlin, Ohio, local school board president Tony Marshall argues that
only black high school teachers should teach 'black history.' Non-black
educators may be able to teach black students to write well, conduct
research, and digest accurate facts and information. But arming black
students with the same fundamentals that every other student needs to
succeed is apparently not what Mr. Marshall wants for his kids: 'A black
teacher brings an experience and understanding of being black that no else
can bring.'

"If Mr. Marshall had to choose between hiring white historian Arthur
Schlesinger Jr. and black rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg, in other words, he would
rather have the pot-smoking, profanity-spewing, gang-banging convicted felon
in the classroom because of Snoop's skin-deep 'experience and understanding.
'"
