AS DEPENDABLE AS A MORNING SUNRISE

"Leave it to Congress to break one thing while attempting to fix another: So
it appears to be with Medicare (and prescription drugs)."

- Columnist Doug Bandow

WILL WE EVER LEARN?

"Various groups, 'alliances,' 'majorities' and 'coalitions' have tried to
prevent or retard what they see as social decay through the political
system. It should be obvious after repeated failures that this tactic does
not and cannot work."

- Columnist Cal Thomas

NEW SURVEY SAYS!

OK, OK, OK. A lot of you wrote in suggesting a number of additional choices
for the 2008 GOP presidential race other than those included in last week's
Survey Says! And almost a third of folks who responded chose "Somebody
else." So here's what we're gonna do. We'll have a sorta Survivor Series
of 2008 GOP candidates leading up to a Super Tuesday championship showdown.

The winner of the first round was former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani with
37 percent of the vote. Here are your Round Two options:

Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo
Texas Rep. Ron Paul
National Security Adviser Condoleeza Rice
Virginia Sen. George Allen
Secretary of State Colin Powell
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich

Make your selection by going to the Survey Says! page at
www.citizenoutreach.com. And if you have any additional suggestions for
Round Three, make sure you send 'em to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

POP QUIZ

Bill Clinton's 1994 "assault weapons" ban was based on:

A. A lie. A false premise and a discredited study.

B. Something Janet Reno told Clinton.

C. An article Clinton read in the New York Times.

Find out the answer to this question and many others by visiting
www.ClintonGunBan.com.

TRIM THE FAT

"If the post office is experiencing a progressively
declining volume, then why don't they do what every
other 'business' would do.......trim the fat and scale
back. Create value added service. Adjust to the
market. Suck it up or become extinct. Happens every
day."

- News & Views reader Cliff Harris

THE COST OF DOING BIZ IN THE U.S.

"...$100 in wages is not the only cost of hiring the American worker. There
are numerous federal and state regulations that add to worker costs, such
as: Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements, Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission mandates, Social Security and Medicare,
Family Medical Leave and many other workplace regulations. Added to worker
costs that businesses incur are: Americans With Disabilities Act, Clean Air
Act, Endangered Species Act and many other regulations.

".There are no two ways about it: There are benefits from all the costly
federal, state and local regulations imposed on American businesses. But we
must also acknowledge our federal, state and local regulatory agencies have
no jurisdiction in India, China, Southeast Asia and Latin America. That
means for many products and services, people who are far less productive
than we, in a physical sense, can beat us in the global marketplace."

- Columnist Walter Williams

MUTH'S TRUTHS

Worried over "outsourcing"? Find out how the government and unions are
conspiring to ship high-tech and other jobs overseas in this week's "Muth's
Truths" column at www.citizenoutreach.com. Then weigh in on the subject on
our Discussion Board at http://blog.chuckmuth.com/blog/

UP IN SMOKE

John Kerry was a pot-head. So was John Edwards. They've both admitted it
publicly. George W probably was, as well, but he's chosen not to discuss it
in public. Does the fact that the top candidates for the top office of the
United States have all, at least in the past, used the exact same kind of
drug that can land you or I in prison today mean it's time to re-evaluate
our "drug war" on marijuana? Does past marijuana use mean anything at all
when running for office any longer? Should it? Or is it time to rethink
how we deal with marijuana use and maybe look to ways to decriminalize it?

THIS WEEK IN DC CONFIDENTIAL

If you missed yesterday's edition of DC Confidential, you missed.

* The link to a Fox News story quoting Citizen Outreach on the issue of
third parties in the 2004 presidential campaign.
* Why the Republican FEC Chairman is taking the Republican National
Committee to the woodshed over political speech restrictions.
* The real nature of the vein of discontent that John Edwards has tapped
into over jobs which the Bush administration would be wise to address...and
soon.
* The political reason why it is all but inevitable that the president will
eventually endorse the federal marriage amendment.
* Some poll numbers which will make Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle even
more "saddened" than usual.
* A huge power play in New York which threatens a major war for black
leadership in the Democrat party. Not surprisingly, Hillary is at the
center or the brouhaha.
* Some left coast tidbits on early jockeying for various California offices
in '06 . . . and a union-backed, anti-taxpayer initiative which will be on
the ballot there in a couple weeks.
* And serious talk about a run at the nation's #2 Democrat by the son of a
legendary college basketball coach out in Las Vegas.

Don't miss another issue of DC Confidential as the 2004 campaign heats up.
