Every poor person I know loves it. They love the cheap milk, the heavily discounted toys, the DVD players they can buy for $30. In fact, in some poor communities, Wal-Mart has actually raised the standard of living by lowering prices dramatically.” - Columnist Caitlin Flanagan AND THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE “Secretary of Education Rod Paige described the National Education Association as a ‘terrorist organization’ in remarks at a private White House meeting before the nation's governors on Monday,” reports Talon News. Hoo-hah! Bravo! Bravo! Paige’s straight talk and candor was extremely refreshing. Naturally, Democrats and union mouthpieces - but I repeat myself - are having a mad cow over the remark. Why, we can’t have administration officials going around calling a spade a spade, can we? The fact is, Secretary Paige didn’t attack teachers at all, but the stinkin’ unions. And golly, gee, when you look at how union leaders terrorize parents into believing that things such as school choice and high standards are bad for kids, the characterization is absolutely defendable, if slightly hyperbolic. Granted, the union isn’t blowing up schools; they’re only blowing up our children’s futures. I haven’t agreed with Dr. Paige on every issue, but on this one, he hit the nail on the head. BRUSHFIRE ALERT: Secretary Paige is, as you would expect, under vicious attack from the teachers unions for his remark. And he’s getting blistered by the left-wing press, as well. So I called his office yesterday and left a message of support with his (grateful) secretary. You can - and SHOULD - add your “bravo!” to help this conservative friend in need. His office phone number is (202) 401-3000 and his email address is [EMAIL PROTECTED] THE MOST PRESSING ISSUE OF OUR TIME? “If we are to prevent the meaning of marriage from being changed forever, our nation must enact a constitutional amendment to protect marriage in America. Today I call for the Congress to promptly pass and send to the states for ratification an amendment to our Constitution defining and protecting marriage as a union of a man and woman, as husband and wife." - President Bush, 2/24/04 NO QUEER EYE FOR THAT BUSH GUY “The president launched a war today...to defile the most sacred document in the land. Rather than allow the contentious and difficult issue of equal marriage rights to be fought over in the states, rather than let politics and the law take their course, rather than keep the Constitution out of the culture wars, this president wants to drag the very founding document into his re-election campaign.” - Conservative columnist Andrew Sullivan, 2/24/04 _________________________________________ WE’LL HAVE A GAY, OL’ TIME Now that the president has thrown his support behind a Federal Marriage Amendment banning same-sex marriages...what next? Weigh in on the subject on our Discussion Board at http://blog.chuckmuth.com/blog/ _________________________________________ RAT TRAPPED? “According to Britain's Sunday Express tabloid newspaper, Usama bin Laden has been found and is surrounded by U.S. special forces in an area of land bordering north-west Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Sunday Express is claiming the al Qaeda leader has been ‘sighted’ for the first time since 2001 and is being monitored by satellite, London's Sunday Telegraph reported. . . . The paper's source for the report -- an unidentified U.S. intelligence official in Washington -- was quoted as saying that bin Laden is ‘boxed in.’ The source also reportedly said U.S. special forces were ‘absolutely confident’ that he could not escape. “...Self-proclaimed al Qaeda operative Daleel Almojahid, who has been posting threatening statements online for a number of months warning of impending terrorist attacks against America, had harsh words about bin Laden's potential capture. . . . According to Almojahid, it is not bin Laden who is in trouble: ‘I can assure you that the Americans are the ones being trapped and surrounded and you will see this in the coming few months as Taliban is going to launch a wide scale operation to bring back more parts of the Islamic state under its Islamic rule, the rule of God. You wait and we wait and we will see who's awaiting victory.’ " - Talon News, 2/24/04 COMING TO PAY-PER-VIEW “Two thirds of Americans in a recent poll say they support the idea of televising executions. 21 percent say they would pay to watch Bin Laden put to death. Hey...there's an idea to reduce the costs of hunting terrorists.” - Talk-show host Neal Boortz ________________________________________ GOP SURVIVOR SERIES There will definitely be a Third Round for the 2008 GOP Presidential Survivor series beginning Thursday. Ron Paul leading the pack and Rep. Tom Tancredo and National Security Adviser Condi Rice running neck-and-neck for the #2 slot. So if you haven’t cast your vote yet, go to the Survey Says! page at www.citizenoutreach.com __________________________________________ IF RALPH SPEAKS AND NOBODY HEARS HIM... “This is a campaign that strives to displace the present corporate regime of the Bush administration,” bleated Ralph Nader announcing yet another hopeless presidential campaign. According to Nader, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Oh. Sorry. Dozed off there. Where were we? HOWARD’S END “Despite raising a record $50.3 million, former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean's presidential campaign was in debt when Mr. Dean withdrew from the race. . . . (C)ampaign manager Roy Neel...said he did not know how much the campaign was in debt, but said it will probably exceed $500,000 once expenses for shutting down the campaign are known, the Associated Press reports.” - Greg Pierce’s “Inside Politics,” 2/24/04 GENTLEMEN, START YOUR ENGINES “President Bush yesterday lashed out at his Democratic opponents for the first time in the 2004 campaign, charging his challengers with espousing ‘old bitterness and partisan anger’ to mask their record of raising taxes and endangering Americans with a weak national defense.” - Washington Times, 2/24/04 BUSH SLAMS FLIP-FLOPPER “The [Democratic presidential] candidates are an interesting group with diverse opinions: for tax cuts and against them; for NAFTA and against NAFTA; for the Patriot Act and against the Patriot Act; in favor of liberating Iraq and opposed to it. And that's just one senator from Massachusetts." - President George Bush, speaking to the Republican Governors Association, 2/23/04 THE DONKEYS’ PLAN FOR TAX CUTS "We'll hear (Democrats) make a lot of promises over the next eight months — and listen closely because there's a theme: Every promise will increase the power of politicians and bureaucrats over your income, your retirement, your health care, and your life. It's that same old Washington mind-set — they'll give the orders, and you'll pay the bills. . . . Our opponents have their own plan for these tax cuts. They plan to take them away." - President George W. Bush, 2/23/04 MONDAY MORNING HAWKS “(Critics of the war in Iraq) would have chosen differently. They now agree that the world is better off with Saddam out of power. They just didn’t support removing Saddam from power. Maybe they were hoping he’d lose the next Iraqi election.” - President Bush, referring to Saddam’s last “election” where he garnered 99.9 percent of the “vote” STIFFING KERRY “A few days ago, a Respected (Democrat) Party Elder advised me to stop dissing John Kerry on account of, 'He will be our nominee.' He may be 'our nominee,' but he'll still be a boring stiff.” - Liberal columnist Molly Ivins WINTER SOLDIER ON THE NET “A conservative activist group has created a website that features excerpts from a book written by Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) in 1971 when he was a leader in the Vietnam antiwar movement. The Free Republic Network (FRN) has posted photographs and transcripts of Kerry's testimony before Congress on the site, www.wintersoldier.com.” - Talon News, 2/24/04 AT LEAST KERRY’S CONSISTENT >From Talk-show host Hugh Hewitt: “Kerry was wrong about the Viet Cong. Kerry was wrong about the North Vietnamese. Kerry was wrong about the Cubans in Grenada. Kerry was wrong about the Sandinistas in Nicaragua. Kerry was wrong about the Soviets and their reaction to Reagan's defense build-up. Kerry was wrong about Saddam in 1991. Kerry was wrong about Saddam in 2003. “Why would we bet the country's national security on Kerry finally getting something right?” THE KERRY NON-DEFENSE RECORD “Here we go with a list of some of the weapons programs that John Kerry opposed while serving in the U.S. Senate: (Remember now ... John Kerry says that this review of his voting record in the Senate is ‘attacking his patriotism.’) The B-1 bomber. The B-2 bomber. The F-15 Eagle tactical fighter The F-14D Tomcat fighter The AH-64 Apache Helicopter The AV-8B Harrier "jump" jet The Patriot Missile The Aegis air-defense system The Trident missile “Kerry also sought to reduce the funding for procurement of the following: The M1 Abrams tank The Bradley Fighting Vehicle The Tomahawk cruise missile The F-16 Falcon fighter/attack jet” - Talk-show host Neal Boortz THE FAT LADY AIN’T SINGIN’ YET “(H)ere's an interesting signal that the Kerry campaign is less than certain they will lock-up the nomination and knock Edwards out of the race on March 2: Kerry's campaign just relocated some campaign staffers to Florida within the past few days to start organizing for the primary there on March 9.” - Ron Gunzburger, Politics1, 2/24/04 _________________________________________ WINNING “HOW TO” CAMPAIGN REPORTS Quick, down-and-dirty "how to" reports on specific aspects of political campaigns and grassroots organizations.
