ITALIAN BRAVE HEART

American Enterprise Institute scholar Michael Ledeen recounted a fascinating story of
media bias in Monday's National Review Online. After being taken hostage near
Fallujah, Italian security guard Fabrizio Quattrocchi was forced to dig his own grave
before his execution by terrorists. With his last breaths, he struggled to rip off the
hood over his head and yelled defiantly to his captors, Now I'll show you how an
Italian dies. Mr. Quattrocchi, a volunteer in Iraq, died without being submissive to
terror, without cowering in the face of evil.

...What is equally interesting about Mr. Quattrocchi's powerful resistance is how few
people know about it. The major network and cable news programs did not run tape of
this act of bravery over and over again as it does with film that shows scared and
submissive hostages. Exhibiting the Italian hero's resolve would help undergird the
civilized world's resolve against terror. It's curious that the Western press largely
spiked the story.

DEPENDS ON YOUR DEFINITION OF RICH

When liberals say they only want to tax the rich what is sometimes lost in
translation is that they define rich as anyone who has a job. Conservative author
Ann Coulter said it best. When liberals promise to only tax the rich, they are about
as convincing as the alcoholic who says that 'I will only drink on the weekends.'

- Steve Moore, president of the Club for Growth

TOOMINATOR MOVING IN FOR THE KILL?

Rep. Patrick J. Toomey has moved to within 5 percentage points of Sen. Arlen Specter
in the final week before the Pennsylvania Republican primary. . . . The much-watched
primary between the conservative Mr. Toomey and the liberal Mr. Specter takes place
Tuesday.

- Greg Pierce, Inside Politics, 4/21/04

ROAD TRIP!

What did Arlen Specter do after boosting your income, gas and Social Security taxes?
Road trip! Merry old England. Romantic Paris. Historic Egypt. Dozens of trips all at
taxpayer expense. He's rated the most wasteful spender in Congress, so he demands
perks. Luxury hotels, gourmet meals, daily squash games. That's Arlen Specter: very
liberal with your taxes."

KERRY SUPPORT: MILE WIDE, INCH THICK

Democratic turnout in the party's 2004 presidential primaries was low, the
third-lowest on record. Low enough that only 5 percent of eligible Americans
participated in the selection of Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry as presumptive nominee
to face President Bush in November.

- John McCaslins Inside the Beltway, 4/21/04

THE ONADER FACTOR

John Kerrys supporters are kidding themselves if they think Ralph Nader wont hurt
their candidate. He might hurt Mr. Kerry in 2004 more than he hurt Al Gore in 2000.

- Columnist James Glassman

THE QUEENS PREDICTION

Kerry will win.

- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, 4/20/04

SCRAPING UP A PURPLE HEART

(W)hy isn't (John Kerry) releasing all of his (medical) records? It doesn't take a
Yale graduate to figure this one out. Kerry's former commanding officer, Lieutenant
Commander Hibbard, is raising questions about the severity of the injury that Kerry
was awarded the Purple Heart for. Turns out it may have just been a very tiny injury,
something along the lines of a fingernail scrape. This won't look good for the Kerry
campaign.

- Talk show host Neal Boortz

UNIONS TAKE ONE IN THE SHORTS

This morning the U.S. Supreme Court denied the petition of the United Auto Workers to
review a decision from the D.C. Circuit upholding President Bushs Executive Order
13201. This order requires federal contractors to post notice that employees cannot
be forced to financially support unions political agendas and projects.

- Stop Union Political Abuse press release, 4/19/04

ILLEGALS RALLY FOR CHEAP TUITION

Hundreds of illegal immigrant high school students yesterday rallied on the Capitol
Hill grounds for affordable tuition, reported the Washington Times on Wednesday.
The students want Congress to pass the Dream Act, a bill sponsored by Sen. Orrin
Hatch, Utah Republican...which would repeal a federal law that discourages states from
offering the children of illegal immigrants in-state tuition rates. A companion bill
in the House is being pushed by Rep. Chris Cannon, also a Utah Republican (whats up
with Utah on this?).

Sen. Jeff Session, Alabama Republican, responded, I do not support the Dream Act. We
should enforce the nations immigration laws. I am baffled why anyone would propose
subsidies to illegal aliens that are not available to Americans. This legislation
would provide an additional incentive for illegal immigration. Amen, brother.

WOW...THAT BAD, HUH?

While Santa Anna (Mexican general at the Alamo) was a uniquely awful leader in
Mexicos history - and thats saying a lot - its important to note that Santa Annas
career says something important about the difference between American and Mexican
culture. He ruled Mexico five separate times. Thats like Dennis Kucinich being
president five times.

- Columnist Steve Sailer

BIRDS OF A FEATHER, REGISTER TOGETHER

A man arrested by Rapid City, South Dakota police two weeks ago following an incident
at a homeless shelter turned out to be a convicted murderer and a voter registration
worker for Democrats. Joseph Prentice was taken into custody when he refused to leave
the Cornerstone Rescue Mission after a resident complained of being harassed.

- Talon News, 4/21/04

THE SPEECH POLICE

A healthy society needs censorship to survive, 1950s musical icon Pat Boone said
yesterday. He added that he would welcome strong content restrictions governing
movies and other artistic works. . . . Censorship is healthy for any society and that
goes for arts, entertainment, anything.

- Washington Times, 4/21/04

THE OMALLEY FACTOR

Baltimore Mayor Marty OMalley (D) - who had egg all over his face recently when he
refused to give Maryland Gov. Bob Ehrlich (R) the names of firefighters involved in a
life-saving rescue so the Guv couldnt honor them - finds himself in the middle of a
new controversy...over affirmative action.

The Baltimore City Fire Department just hired an all-white class of 30 recruits.
Seems all the black applicants either failed the entrance exam, the background checks
or the drug screening. So, according to the Washington Times, To help diversify the
department, officials have bypassed some white recruits who scored higher than black
candidates on entrance exams for the latest class of recruits. Lovely.

In a related story, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. dislocated a shoulder while
turning over in his grave.

GOOD GRIEF

According to a wire service report, Starting in July, Portland (Oregon) police
officers will have to write a report each time they point a gun at someone. In
related news, Portland firefighters will soon be required to file a written report
every time they flick a Bic.

WINNING HOW TO CAMPAIGN REPORTS

Quick, down-and-dirty "how to" reports on specific aspects of political campaigns and
grassroots organizations. Written primarily for beginners with little or no
experience, but certainly chocked full of tidbits and hot tips to benefit even the
most seasoned political pro. Generally 8-16 pages of A-Z, step-by-step instructions
to gain more votes, more money and more volunteers for your political activities
and/or campaign. Don't expect fancy packaging with a lot of bells and whistles. Just
solid, up-to-date how-to information you can put to use IMMEDIATELY. Go to
