BLEW OUT MY FLIP-FLOPS

My baby bro' and sister-in-law extraordinaire are in town from Las Vegas
visiting for a couple of days...and they are our oldest daughter's
Godparents...so I'll be spending some time hanging out with them at the
beach this afternoon and on the Boardwalk tonight. Which means I might not
make a full issue of News & Views tomorrow.

HOWEVER.

I WILL be responding to some emails from outraged government school
employees who wrote in response to Friday's item about the kindergarten
teacher in New Jersey pulling down $70,000 a year for a 10-month job
teaching "Old McDonald Had a Farm." They are demanding that I apologize.

Hmmmm. Maybe they have a point. Or maybe they've just ticked me off even
more.

Well, I've got to go check out the Chiquita's all covered in oil...so you'll
have to wait until tomorrow. But I suspect you will NOT want to miss
it...and it will be well worth the wait. Surf's up, dudes!

FAHREN-HYPE 9/11

The left is drooling like village idiots over the box office take of Mike
Moore's new Bush-whacking movie over the weekend. The flick took in around
$22 million...a record for an independent fictional film. "These are
mind-blowing numbers," the 800-lbs. Moore-on said, claiming it proves the
movie isn't just talking to the Bush-hating choir, but enjoys widespread
appeal

Hmmmm. Sounds like just more hype to me. Let's run the numbers. At, let's
say, eight bucks a pop, that means less then 3 million folks nationwide went
to see this crap. Now, at last count I think we have some 280 million
people living here in this country that Moore despises so much. You take
the math from here. Widespread appeal? I don't THINK so.

NOW THIS TAKES CHUTZPAH

For months now, Democrats and Democrat front groups have been hammering
President Bush...especially the clinically insane Al Gore and the terminally
obnoxious Michael Moore and...arrgghhhh!...Howard Dean. And MoveOn.org
actually produced two TV ads comparing the president to Adolf Hitler.

Well, the Bush campaign took clips from these various attacks and put
together their own little ad titled, "The Faces of John Kerry's Democratic
Party: The Coalition of the Wild-Eyed." ( http://www.georgewbush.com )

Now get this.

The Kerry campaign is having a cow over the Bush ad. "The Bush campaign
should immediately remove these hateful images from its website and
apologize for using them," said Kerry mouthpiece Phil Singer. "The use of
Adolf Hitler by any campaign, politician or party is simply wrong." Does
that take brass, or what? For the record, the Kerryites didn't issue any
condemnation of MoveOn.org when they originally released their
Bush-as-Hitler ads earlier this year.

Expressing outrage over having their own words used against them.
Priceless.

WHAT'S SHOCKING...IS THAT THIS WON'T SHOCK ANYONE

"Minneapolis Tribune columnist James Lileks asked several liberal friends if
they would rather have Osama bin Laden captured and President Bush
re-elected, or Mr. Bush defeated and Osama still at large. They all said
they would prefer to have Mr. Bush defeated. That's a choice many in the
media made long ago."

OUT OF CONTROL

Democrats in the House teamed up with about a third of their big-spending
GOP brethren to kill the Spending Control Act on Friday. OK, show of hands:
Who's surprised?

I am. I'm surprised it was only a THIRD of Republicans.

As Rep. Charlie Stenholm, Texas Democrat, remarked, "Republicans control the
House. Republicans control the Senate. Republicans control the White House.
The only thing Republicans cannot control is spending."

Ouch...and touch.

COMRADE CAMEJO

Folks paying close attention know that Ralph Nader picked Green Party
activist Peter Camejo to be his vice presidential running mate. And those
paying even closer attention will recall that Camejo was the Green Party
gubernatorial candidate in last year's California special election to
replace Gray Davis.

But what you might NOT know is that Camejo was a card-carrying commie from
the sixties through the early eighties before joining the enviro-wacko
party. Or as Max Friedman of Historians of American Communism put it in the
Washington Times on Saturday, "Mr. Camejo has completed the radical-left
circuit from 'red' to 'Green.'"

The problem is, ideologically you can't tell the difference.

VATICAN RAG

Bishop Wilton Gregory, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic bishops,
endorsed on Friday a federal constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.
Sorry, but as a Roman Catholic myself, I have to say the padre overstepped
his bounds and crossed the wall of separation you've heard so much about.
You don't see members of Congress trying to tell the Vatican how to do ITS
job, do you?

And considering the Catholic church's recent track record on sex issues with
under-aged boys, Bishop Gregory might want to heed the old wisdom about
"people in glass houses."

INDEPENDENCE DAY

"The Fourth of July is Independence Day, but America's leaders and
intellectuals have been trying to move us further and further away from the
meaning of Independence Day, away from the philosophy that created this
country. What we hear from politicians, intellectuals, and the media is
that independence is pass, that we've reached a new age of
'interdependence.' We hear demands for mandatory 'volunteering' to serve
others, for sacrifice to the nation. We hear demands from trust-busters that
successful companies be punished for being 'greedy' and not serving society.
But this is not the message of America.

"...To the Founding Fathers, there was no authority higher than the
individual mind, not King George, not God, not society. Reason, wrote Ethan
Allen, is 'the only oracle of man,' and Thomas Jefferson advised us to 'fix
reason firmly in her seat and call to her tribunal every fact, every
opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God.' That is the
meaning of independence: trust in your own judgment, in reason; do not
sacrifice your mind to the state, the church, the race, the nation, or your
neighbors.

"Independence is the foundation of America. Independence is what should be
celebrated on Independence Day. That is the legacy our Founding Fathers left
us. It is a legacy we should keep, not because it is a legacy, but because
it is right and just. It has made America the freest and most prosperous
country in history."

- Michael Berliner of the Ayn Rand Institute
