From Jerry Policoff:

Two things I want to share, one a little noticed poll just out today,
the other a rather startling statistic at the precinct where I am a
judge here in Lancaster.

First the precinct news. I am an election judge in a relatively
small, strongly Democratic and majority Hispanic precinct not known
for heavy registration or strong turnout. Last year there were just
under 300 registered voters in the precinct. Today when I was
preparing the voting place for tomorrow I peaked at the election
book. There are now 735 registered voters in the precinct - more
than double the 2007 number. If this is typical and not an
aberration I suspect it bodes very well for Barack Obama in
Pennsylvania tomorrow.

Now that poll. It is an Alaska poll conducted on November 2nd that
interviewed a random sample of registered Alaska voters with land
lines who voted in at least two of the last four elections. That
methodology strongly favors McCain because it excludes people who use
cell phones rather than land lines, and it clearly also excludes
first time voters who could not have voted in two of the past four
elections. National polls suggest that first time voters and cell
phone users are voting overwhelmingly for Obama. So what were the
results in this poll conducted in the very red state of Alaska (which
gave 61% of its votes to Bush in 2004)?

McCain/Palin: 47%

Obama/Biden: 44%

Regarding voters' opinion of Sarah Palin since she was named Vice
Presidential candidate:

11% said it was more positive; 37% said it was more negative.

The poll also had both Republican Senator Ted Stevens and Republican
Congressman Don Young going down in defeat to their Democratic
opponents, the former by 8 points and the latter by 7 points.

An aberration? Perhaps, but if not Alaska has just gone from a state
that was solid for McCain to an in-play toss-up state. Recent polls
suggest that Arizona is also now in play (the most recent poll from
Research 2000 has McCain up by only 1 point, 48% to 47%).

I'm still nervous about another stolen election, but I am beginning
to dare hope that Obama may win more votes than they can steal.
