From Kindra Muntz: ELECTIONS BILL NOT DEAD: CALL AGAIN TODAY, April 28
See the critical updates below from Brad Ashwell of Florida Public Interest Research Group (PIRG) and Heather Walker of the Florida League of Women Voters in Tallahassee: Senate President Jeff Atwater: phone (850) 487-5100, email <mailto:[email protected]>[email protected] Senator Nancy Detert (Sarasota County): (850) 487-5081 email <mailto:[email protected]>[email protected] Find other Senators at <http://www.flsenate.gov>http://www.flsenate.gov From Brad, 4/27 7:41 PM: Just to focus what Heather is saying a little bit - please direct as many calls, emails, letters, visits, etc - to Senate President Jeff Atwater and whoever you're personal senator is as soon as possible - with the message that Heather describes below. From Heather: 4/27 3:41 PM This bill is not dead. The original Senate version of the bill just got pulled from its last committee of reference and placed on the Second Reading calendar in the Senate. They are still doing special order calendars and this bill will now have the ability to put on the Senate Special Order calendar tomorrow. We need another round of constituent calls to the Senate asking them not to place this bill on the Special Order calendar. There is nothing in this bill that is needed or good for Floridians. They need to not waste time trying to fix this bad bill and instead focus on finishing the budget. We hear rumors of amendments to "fix" this bill, but the bottom line is there is nothing being discussed that is non-controversial and this bill just needs to die. Thanks everyone for your help and for sticking with this in the final stretch. Heather ----------------------------- From Heather: 4/27 1:09 PM We are watching the elections bill closely. Our biggest concern is that they will take parts and amend them to other bills in the last few days of session. We want to keep the pressure on the Senate to ensure this entire elections bill is too toxic to touch at all. Everyone should keep up the constituent calls to the Senators, they have been incredibly effective. The message to the Senators should be that SB 956 is a terrible bill and no part of it should be passed in any form. They need to stop wasting time on this bad election proposal and focus on the budget. Thanks for all the ground support. We really appreciate everyone mobilizing so quickly and getting our message out there so well.
