From Ecological Options Network: Hi All,
In the interest of helping to foster cross-border connections between election protection activists, we're passing along this link to an excellent in-depth, trans-national study on e-voting problems by Manila-based engineer and election integrity activist Roberto Verzola. He is currently the secretary-general of Halalang Marangal, 'a non-profit, non-partisan consortium of groups and individuals who want to conduct a citizens' audit of Philippine election tallies... [to] determine the true results of elections.' We had the opportunity to tape a video interview with Mr. Verzola when we covered the 2007 Philippine election and were impressed by his insights and grasp of the issues. This study (only available as a PDF download) was written last year during a research fellowship at the Oxford Internet Intitute (OII) in the UK. We think it's worth the read, especially in light of the Philippines' coming switch to black box voting for their 2010 election (which we aim to cover for our in-progress doc on election integrity movements here and abroad). It also traces the deeper causes of these problems, such as software errors, hardware problems, environmental stresses, human errors, design flaws and malicious tampering. ____________________________ EON The Ecological Options Network "Documenting Solutions" <http://www.eon3.net>www.eon3.net --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to Mark Crispin Miller's "News From Underground" newsgroup.
