From Teresa Hommel:

New Yorkers for Verified Voting (NYVV) still thinks computers might
be used securely in elections.

I don't believe it--that's one reason why I want to
keep our lever voting machines.

Here is an URGENT ALERT we both agree on:

We all must call the State Board of Elections tomorrow
morning--Tuesday, May 12--and voice our objections to using
uncertified computers without full verification in
real elections in New York this year.

Please make the phone call as NYVV requests below!!!!

Teresa Hommel

On Tuesday, May 12, the NYS Board of Elections is preparing to
approve a proposal that allows deployment of new voting systems this
Fall despite the fact that certification testing is not yet
completed. 43 counties have indicated willingness to deploy
uncertified equipment. The Board of Elections is referring to this
use of uncertified equipment as a 'pilot' program.

NYVV has long argued that the only acceptable way to allow a pilot of
uncertified equipment is if a 100% hand count of paper ballots is
also performed to verify machine counts. Instead, the Board has
replaced that requirement with one that is not even remotely adequate
to verify the results.

NY has the toughest certification standards for voting systems in the
nation, but now the State Board of Elections is preparing to toss
these standards overboard by relabeling the use of uncertified
equipment as a 'pilot'. We urge you to call the Board prior to 12
noon on May 12 and urge them to reject any proposal which does not
require a 100% hand count of paper ballots if uncertified machines
are used.

CALL NOW TO SAY THAT UNCERTIFIED SCANNERS MUST NOT BE USED UNLESS
ACCOMPANIED BY A 100% HAND COUNT OF ALL CONTESTS.
