No change in stand, says Kantapuram
'Always ready for unity of the Sunni organisations'

'No proposal for Sunni unity from Muslim League'
Court formed to deal with family, Wakf issues

KOZHIKODE: Kantapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar, general secretary of the
Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, has said that the organisation's stance is
to support those candidates who are useful for the country.

Mr. Kantapuram was talking to reporters after a meeting of the supreme council
of the Ulama here on Saturday.
He said there was no change in the political stand of the organisation.

Political affiliation
When asked whether that meant supporting the LDF as had been done last time, he
said it did not necessary mean that.
"Samastha does not support any political party. It will take a stand as and
when the time comes," he said.

Mr. Kantapuram said his organisation was always ready for unity of the Sunni
organisations.
The organisation had a non-political stand on the issue. "Unity does not mean
merger."

Unity proposal
His organisation had put forward a unity proposal that retained the existing
Sunni organisations and institutions.

Replying to a question, he said he did not so far receive any proposal either
orally or written from Muslim League State president Panakkad Syed Mohammedali
Shihab Thangal for Sunni unity.

A Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama Maslahath Court was formed for finding a
solution to the marriage, divorce, family and Wakf issues as per the guidelines
of the Constitution and Islamic Shariat.

A seven-member Supreme Council, comprising Ulama president Sayyid Abdurahiman
Albukhari Ullal as chairman and Mr. Kantapuram as general secretary, was
elected to the court.

An 11-member committee with A.P. Muhammed Musliyar as convener was also elected
for the conduct of the court.
